http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/olympics/...urn=oly,219193

1. The first indoor Opening Ceremony -- For the first time in history the Opening Ceremony of an Olympics will be held indoors. BC Place, a domed arena in downtown Vancouver and the largest air-supported structure in the world, will play host to the Opening Ceremony and Closing Ceremony of the Games of XXI Winter Olympics. A sold out crowd of 60,600 is expected in the oddly-shaped venue (affectionately known as "the marshmallow" by Canadians). The decision to hold the ceremony inside worked out well for organizers. Rain is forecasted for Friday night in the host city.

2. This won't be a replay of Beijing's Opening Ceremony -- After the stunning Opening Ceremony display two years ago in China, Vancouver organizers have smartly downplayed expectations for their show Friday night. With a wildly disproportionate budget, thousands of fewer volunteers and an inability to come close to matching the man-hours put in by Beijing performers, Vancouver couldn't possibly have expected to match the pageantry put on in the Bird's Nest in 2008. But that doesn't mean Friday night won't be special. Officials have said to expect "more emotion than spectacle."

3. Canadian themes -- A good Opening Ceremony doesn't need a massive budget or thousands of performers, it needs to entertainingly reflect the culture of the host country in a manner that's easily relatable to the three billion people watching on television. As such, expect sections this evening about aboriginal culture, the frigid weather and the sports that accompany it and, perhaps, some theatrics from Canada's most famous performing troupe, Cirque de Soleil.

I am going to our local Community Centre where they have a large screen & watch the opening cerenonies to see what 2 Billion bucks buys!

Actually, the budget for the opening ceremony is 25 Million.

Re: 2010 Winter Olympics

Well, we just returned from seeing the opening ceremonies & except for a lesbian singing & some of the outfits, I thought it represented Canada well!

Ron ~ How exciting to be able to attend the opening ceremonies. As a violinist I was very excited to see all the violins and I really enjoyed the opera. I thought everything was very good and I actually like it more than China. It was really nice to see the parade of nations early on in the program, as opposed to waiting until the end.

Ron that was the first time I had heard how Canada stepped in and not only allowed US planes to land on 9-11 but also fed and put them up for a couple of days.

What a kind nation, kind of reminds me of the one I live in. :thumbsup

I didn't attend the opening ceremonies, I went to my local Community Centre where they had a gigantic screen & they fed us with food, hot chocolate, & then had draws to win prizes.
My oldest won a book on Vancouver.

Funny thing is this, on the other side of the community centre is a new ice rink that was built by Vanoc & it is behind chain link fence & heavy police security as figure skating pairs are practicing thier routines there.

Don't get me wrong, I still think we are going to be paying for this long after the Oly mpics are gone.
I personally believe that it made some individuals rich.

It is here & I will see what we get for our money, but it won't leave fast enough for me.
Is it the people from other nations that bother me? No, it is the heavy police & military presence that bothers me.

Ron, thank you for the effort to post links to the Olympic Winter Games - however, I continue to get the following message for most of your links... Just thought you might want to know. That may be the reason for no comments on the various video links.

Since CTV does not own the online Olympic rights outside of Canada, news video willnot be available internationally until March 1. Sorry for the inconvenience

Sorry Sweat Pea for that happening, but thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Does that happen to all the links?

I wonder what the traffic will be like going to Church because we have to pass the Figure Skating venue to get on the bridge to North Shore.

Ron hope you all didn't have any trouble getting to service. I watched the women's hockey game last night between Canada and Slovakia. Canada played a great game needless to say. However, all the flack condemning Canada for their win is just beyond me. I've seen a lot of talk about this on the net including people saying that there should be a "mercy rule" to keep teams from dominating in this way. (I think it's all ridiculous) Anywho, is there as much talk about this out there as there seems to be on the net.

No, I got to watch the "on TV" proposal - that was cute!

I think is it primarily anything that NBC will be broadcasting or has already broadcasted (i.e. The Opening Ceremony). On the NBC website, you can't watch the entire ceremony from start to finish, they only have clips. :foottap I took it that the link you provided was the entire thing.

Actually was a breeze! No trouble at all!

That same team Canada beat (the Slovaks) beat the Bulgarian team in 2008 by 85-0 yes that is right.

Don't feel to teary eyed.

With all the hullabaloo about the Winter Olympics, I thought the traffic would be horrendous, quite the contrary, the traffic is a breeze.

The exceptions are the venues & downtown Vancouver!

This is going by the Figure Skating venue on the way to Church.

Understanding the preparation and endurance. I've not gotten into winter sports much. I can count how many times it has snowed in my life on two hands. LOL! So, this is different.

My wife took me to Denny's for breakfast this morning (you get a free meal on your birthday:D) & they had the Olympics on a big screen TV.
It was curling a venue just 5 minutes from my house.

You could feel the excitement in the restaurant!
