A Bald Eagle In Local Park

We live about 10 blocks from Trout Lake a huge park in East Van. They have a Community Centre & Ice Rink plus a large park & lake right behind it that is frequented by Ducks, Geese, Canada Geese that we go & feed in the wintertime.
The ice rink is where there is a heavy police presence because the Olympic Figure Skaters practice thier routines there while the Olympics is on.

While feeding the ducks at thelake someone pointed out a Bald Eagle perched at the top of a 50-60 foot tree watching us feed the ducks.
He had just swwoped down and grabbed a perch that is stocked at the lake.
There are no more Trout stocked there.
Pictures are not great as the sun was going down & I just used my hand held digital camera.

This is the first time I have seen a Bald Eagle in the City.

Bald eagles are just amazing - there is a pair that calls Shiloh National Park "home" - they've raised at least two years from a huge pine tree near "bloody pond" - the park marked off parking areas so you could observe them - we took the grandkids over for a viewing one day - and heard the story that one of the eagles had grabbed a couples' small dog - never to be seen again!!!! true story. so sad for dog owners.

Not to brag....but, we have hundreds of them here in the winter.

You can somtimes see a group of 40 or 50 roosted in the trees in the early morning before the fly off to hunt for their fish.

They congregate below our dams on the Mississippi River where the fast movig water stays open. Also the fish that have just came thru the dam our sometimes stunned by their tumble thru the rollers.

It's amazing to see them swoop down on the water and come up with a fish in their talons

Thanks for sharing your pictures. It's always neat to see eagles.

They congregate on the Missouri River too and I've seen them a few times.
They're so impressive.

Actually it is unusual to see an Eagle in Vancouver, but in Brackendale which is on the way to Whistler they have one of the largest concentrations of Bald Eagles that come here every year to feast on the BC Salmon run.

In 1994 over 4,000 were counted.

I see them a lot when working chimneys at the Lake of the Ozarks. Once I employed a Russian who tried to kill one that was diving at us - they thought we were disturbing their eating area. They would bring fish to the top of the chimney and eat them.

Vladimir went down and came back swinging a 2x4...

He kept saying "No good! this veddy big bird. I kill him!"

Took me forever to get it through his head that this is a federal crime.
