I may never eat a crawdad
let alone suck the juice out of a crawdad's head, but I love my La hotlink sandwitches.
when I was a kid I had my first hotlink. It was sooo good, but soooooo hot. We have a place here where the links are mild, really good. I saw on the menu they have catfish. I never ate catfish before. Thinking of trying it |

Re: I may never eat a crawdad
Prax,
Ask for blackened catfish... great stuff... |
Re: I may never eat a crawdad
Catfish is great...so are crawdads...

Re: I may never eat a crawdad
I have never tried crawdad's; I've always been to nervous to try them. Is that all people do is rip the head off and suck the juice out? Deep fried catfish is great with lemon and La. hotsauce (gotta have hushpuppies or cornbread).

No, I don't eat any fish or seafood. I sure don't eat rooster eggs either.......I'm so funny. |
Re: I may never eat a crawdad
Prax, most places I've ever been that cook catfish cook it so it tastes really good. Preparation isn't that difficult, IMO, but it is pretty fishy tasting if someone doesn't know what they are doing... believe me on that. First time I cooked any, I learned my lesson.
No matter how catfish is prepared, it does have a stronger flavor than other fish, it seems like to me. I've never had it blackened, but that sounds good. At home I broil it with lemon and herbs, but I love it fried, especially with a little hot sauce in the batter. Yum! Crawdads aren't bad either, but there sure isn't much meat in a crawdad. :) |

Re: I may never eat a crawdad
Prax,
I used to manage a Piccadilly, HQ Baton Rough. Catfish and crawdads were daily fare. What your talking about "sucking heads" is the boiled crawfish. But you can also get peeled and packaged. You should try them if you like shrimp, crawdads and shrimp are interchangeable in recipes. IMO you can't beat crawfish, Jambalaya, or Scampi. If you have pond raised catfish, that stops the fear of eating the bottom feeders. If you like them fried, while they are still frozen, bread them in cor meal seasoned with salt, and plenty of red pepper. |
Re: I may never eat a crawdad
Eat the crawdads the meat in the head. They are good, but you have to eat alot of them to get to alot of meat, kinda like eat squirrel or rabbit.

Re: I may never eat a crawdad
I have eaten all kinds of things. Crawfish are good but I would rather have lobster any day.
I went to this festival a couple years ago... they weren't anything to write home about. http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z...ysweep/028.jpg |
Re: I may never eat a crawdad
I love all seafood. But nothing beats high-quality raw fish.

Re: I may never eat a crawdad
Nothing beats a walleye....but catfish, espescially pond raised can be prepared properley and quite tasty.
Friday night catfish fries are big around here. |

When they slid a catfish steak onto my plate I was confused, to say the least. All the fried catfish I had ever seen looked like something like a fish - in it's general outline. I was expecting a "whole" cleaned and fried catfish about 10" - 12" long, or so. Instead I got a slab of catfish meat bigger than any catfish I had ever caught. Took me a while of considering before I realized that catfish grow A LOT bigger in larger bodies of water. Then I sort of laughed at myself. Didn't like the fish too much, but wasn't grossed out too much either. |
