We don't really have this in context, but if the term eunuch was used in place of a term like "coward" then I find it to be disturbingly explicit and rather profane for use in the pulpit.

A eunuch is a castrated man; usually one castrated early enough to have major hormonal consequences.

The eunuchs were incapable of "sowing seed". They were trusted by various kings to not copulate with the wives and concubines because of their lack of desire. The analogy was being made, comparing preachers of today who are not willing or have no desire to "sow the seed" by preaching the whole truth, to the eunuchs. The devil has no problem with these men standing before congregations of saints, because he trusts them not to be reproductive by sowing the seed of the word. Eunichs were not allowed into the congregation of Israel in the OT....

I see. Rather crude analogy, don't you think? I prefer to think of someone sowing seed like a farmer in a field, TYVM.

That's fine if you prefer one analogy over another. I guess someone could read SOS and say "how crude". I tend to think that scriptural analogies are beautiful, especially since, "doth not nature teach?" ... Both analogies, conception and agriculture, are made in scripture...

Was that a scriptural analogy? Where does scripture refer to preachers or prophets sowing seed in the reproductive sense? I've read quite a few scriptures about sowing seed in a field that grow up into a harvest; I don't recall any of the other....

I agree that scripture is beautiful, including Song of Solomon. However, just because something is beautiful in context doesn't mean it can be applied to any topic appropriately. One of the worst sermons I EVER heard was about "making love to Jesus", (@ a nameless conference by a nameless minister). He not only made the comparison between sex and our relationship with God, he actually went through each reproductive body part in detail, and compared its function to how we relate to God. It was graphic, in poor taste, and really just stupid.

Given this explanation, I still think it was an unnecessarily graphic illustration that was in poor taste. I also wonder why he thinks these men are "on the website watching"....

Why broadcast it if you just want to demonize those watching? Does that make one more right or spiritual to throw deratory statements at the listeners? No, it is raw red meat to the natives!!

In the context of the point he was making, the analogy was perfectly scriptural, and his language tempered and appropriate for the audience he was ministering to, and for anyone who would listen to the message. If I said a man who would not preach the word was emasculated, or a eunuch, makes no difference, the language is appropriate, although I could see how some limp wristed effeminate preachers who refuse to proclaim the Word of God would be somewhat put off...

Re: That's For All You Eunuchs!!!

I think Bob Dylan has taken the preaching out of context. It may be that an unfortunate statement slipped by the preacher in question; but for Bob Dylan to then go all over the Internet claiming that the preacher said something which he clearly did not say is just plain wrong.

In fact, Bob Dylan is a liar if he says Nathaniel Urshan really called anyone a "eunich" (sic). It's obviously just Bob Dylan's desire to do away with the preaching of the everlasting Gospel and to tear down the things that our elders have upheld from the beginning that is causing him to say this.

Go back an listen again, and again, and again to the clip, Bob Dylan. Your (sic) a liar if you don't see it my way.

LOL!!!! That's classic, BD! Anyone who doesn't like something that's said can be categorized as limp wristed or effeminate, as a way to render them insignificant. :coffee2 If you can make yourself feel that your opponent (or his opinions) are of no value, you can then justify treating him accordingly.

Regardless, I'm not a man (or a preacher), so perhaps my "effeminate" mindset is a little more offended by the reference than a real, masculine virile man would be.

Anyway...what was the scriptural reference again? I don't mean a scripture talking about a eunuch--I'm talking about where scripture compares a man sowing seed in the reproductive sense to a minister or prophet sowing the Word of God. You said it was a scriptural analogy. I'd like to know the reference. I can certainly point to references for the agricultural side of it.

Well, I actually agree with you here. Consider:

The current theological position known as the "Three Stepper" way, or by its adherents as "Acts 2:38 Salvation" is clearly a "limp wristed" and "effeminate" approach to preaching the Gospel.

"But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness."

1 Corinthians 1:23

Paul preached a message that he knew would stir up problems with most of his hearers. The "Jews" would be angered and the Greeks would call him "foolish!" Yet, Paul had the courage - (he had the " 'nads! ") - to continue to preach Christ even in the face of such opposition.

What was it that Paul preached about Jesus Christ that caused such controversy? It was the CROSS!

1 Corinthians 1:17-18; Galatians 5:11 and Galatians 6:14

Preaching the CROSS takes courage, conviction and the power of the Holy Ghost!

Now, this "Three Stepper" message of compromise...

This message denies the power of the cross. In virtually all statements of faith, Articles of Faith and ministerial manuals of all "Three Stepper" dominated organizations such as the UPC and the WPF there is a glaring omission of the works of Jesus Christ and the effectiveness of the cross of Calvary in the sanctification and salvation of the lost.

They simply don't have the courage to stand up to one another and to preach the cross! They are too "limp wristed" to go before their General Conferences with a resolution demanding the inclusion of the cross in their article of faith!

They are spiritual eunuchs - preachers without fruit - whose movement is dying and bereft of younger ministers because they don't have the "goods" to reproduce!

They don't have the courage to preach the cross with all of it's power and blessings:

And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:

That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

John 3:14-21

The "Three Steppers" don't have the courage to preach "Jesus Christ and him crucified!" They are forever eunuchs of the faith. There's is a "Christianity without the cross."

I agree with you. I heard one minister preach a ladies conference and make an altar call asking the sisters to get in the birthing position. Many of the ladies who attended were insulted by this. No one considered this and many other remarks to be in good taste by a male minister preaching to women.

Re: That's For All You Eunuchs!!!

Never really understood the teaching of Jesus when he said,

For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.

Well, most of us know what happens to a man if he loses this part of his anatomy (ouch).:ouch

Maybe that's why the all boys choir in the Catholic Church can sing so high..:cheer

oop! LOL. Talk about clueless!

I'm sorry, Trouvere... but that one is so bad it's funny. I can only imagine the consternation the poor ladies suffered. They need to get a video of that altar call and use it for training all future ministers on what NOT to do.

I love how people project their masculinity (that they define) into the Gospel.

Limp-wristed are those who don't buy the ........ you present as Gospel? Limp wristed are those who trust the Creator God, that what he has provided is good? Limp wristed is it, that they oppose control freaks? That they refuse to take credit for their own salvation? I like that playground, adolescent, peer pressure manipulation: if you're really a man, you won't question this. Sounds desperate to me. A little textual creativity.

Why be so insecure to even give a response to your "internet" detractors? Are they wielding that much influence???? And if we claim "no fruit," shall we name names? Mighty broad generalization of unknown enemies.
