Re: Facebook virus
If you DO get a Facebook virus (or Viri) make sure you go to your applications and remove it.

Re: Facebook virus
Happened to me two weeks ago or so. Infested my pc. McAffee did NOT catch it until it was too late. (inserts promo for AVG free and Threat Fire)
Anyway. A pop-up appeared that looked like XP's security area that show's your firewall. Silly me. I'm on Windows 7. Didn't notice until I took a closer look and there was an Http at the top bar. Took several hours to clear up the mess. have fun. |

Re: Facebook virus
Sec... this is how it went down:
I opened a message from a facebook friend. I clicked on the youtube link. I could see a page with vulgar stuff written on it... and a few seconds later the video page appeared. And I thought to myself "this could be a virus.." I clicked on the video to play.. and it asked me to dl flash player. I did that.. and em.. the rest of the story.. the xp screen.. etc. |

Timmy, Yours came to my inbox... I got the noticication 3 times!!! LOL!!! It was a youtube with a little "m" above it. I instantly recognized it as being connected with a virus as I have received youtubes with a little letter above it. I didn't open it and looked for a message saying it was a virus and found Jim's message verifying that it was indeed a virus! Falla39 |

Re: Facebook virus
I just downloaded a free malware program that found and cleaened up 10 viruses
www.malwarebytes.com I kept having a pop up "virus scanner" keep poping up telling me I was infected that would then lock down my pooter. Also a little chat box from adultfriendfinder kept opening up every 10 miutes or so with a naked girl in a video. Like you sais Bryan,it's been an intersting morning getting rid of this mess. "my video" came from a trusted friend, so I just opened it..... a lesson learned. |
Re: Facebook virus
I received a couple from you and three from other people. I never open them anyway, but thanks for the heads up.

Is there a way of seeing this without getting the virus? |

Re: Facebook virus
Here is what I sent freeatlast. Note this ONLY takes care of the Facebook part. You may need additional viral removal stuff to get rid of anything else depending on how much clicking and "accepting" you did once you received the initial application or link.
On face book, go to Accounts on the upper right of the screen. Click on it and select Application settings on the drop down box. This will list all your applications. Click on the X on the right hand side to remove that application. You should do this every now and then to make sure you don't have any apps running you were not aware of. |
Re: Facebook virus
Perhaps you have something similar to what I had (though no naked girl popping up thank goodness) but my computer was a mess that AVG let happen.
Oh well, lesson learned. I have been hearing a lot of Apostolics are getting these bugs, I do not know if it is a threat specific to us or if we are just collateral damage in the spread of malware, viruses, & trojans. Hope you get it cleared up soon with minimal damage. |
Re: Facebook virus
Yeah, don't ya hate viruses that make ya sin? :lol

If my FB account gets a virus it's going to send it to all my friends - not just the Apostolic ones. |

It reads "boot disc failure." I am hoping to buy a new hard drive & install this week. Good news is hard drives are cheap & it seems you get more bang for your buck. Thanks for all the info you have shared including the anti virus programs, it is very much appreciated.:thumbsup |

I hate those buggers like the plague. There's no sense to them other than to be malicious. If they really wanted to make revenue there's more sneaky and elegant ways to go about it without disrupting everything. |

Re: Facebook virus
I got it. Didnt think anything because it was from my sister. Stupid me didnt even look at the fact the IP address link wasnt even in proper format.
Its not hard to get rid of however, AVG did let it download when I clicked on it but when the virus started running AVG blocked its attempts to take over. I ran Spybot one time and got it all out of my system. |

Re: Facebook virus
Another "trick" is to make a second Admin account. My room mates Laptop was so jacked up I could not get it to boot into windows. But I was able to boot into the other account I made on there and clean out the viruses

If you open this thing it goes into your FB friends list and sends itself to 10 or 20 of your friends. Then it floods your computer with pop ups till you just about can' use your computer. I used a free program from www.malwarebytes.com It scaned my computer and remved 10 worm viruses. |
