Anti-Pork??
Anyone anti-pork here? I have a brother who was for a while... I saw him at a pork BBQ dinner last Sat. Seems a lot of folks abstain for a while but rarely long term.
Bacon anyone?? http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z...piginapoke.jpg |
Re: Anti-Pork??
As a descendant of both the Prophet Mohammad and a couple of different lines of Jewish ancestry, yes... however the Welsh and the Scot in me do enjoy a good seasoned and cured ham and some crispy bacon.

Re: Anti-Pork??
It is sanctified by the word of God & prayer!:preach
A little seasoning helps too!:bbq |
Re: Anti-Pork??
After reading this forum awhile back, I didn't even want artificial bacon bits in my house!...lol

Re: Anti-Pork??
I do enjoy a good piece of bacon, and even a dog from the grill, but for the most part I don't really eat pork. I just went to my son's house where they raise pigs. Those little rascals are DIRTY, and they STINK! They eat anything, roll in anything, and that's the real turn off for me. They truly are an "Unclean" animal.

Re: Anti-Pork??
What? Give up pork chops?
Supper menus need variety> pulled pork, pork roast, pork tenderloin.......... Beef and chicken and fish are fine but we can't eliminate pork.:smack |

Re: Anti-Pork??
I voted that I eat it, but just once in a while. I love pork tenderloin, bacon, sausage, etc. etc., but I know in abundance it cannot be good for you.
I did just have some "Souflima" from a Greek restaurant one day last week in Memphis. It's pork tenderloin cooked slowly and served with this amazing Greecian tomato sauce with cinnamon in it. It's my one real pork weakness; I have to have it whenever we go there!! Sorry - it's my one vice.:ursofunny |
Re: Anti-Pork??
I have it on good authority that the "Ambrosia" that sustained the ancient greek gods was really bacon.
Like Emeril says... "pork fat rules" I broke in a new stainless saute pan with Pork chops just Monday....mmmmm deglazed the pan with a little white wine and apple juice, stirred in some sliced apples and a bit of brown sugar... nice. |
Re: Anti-Pork??
As a rule, our family doesn't eat pork. Nothing to do with "religious" reasons and everything to do with how good it is for you. Not that I never will and I don't preach it to our church folks, simply a personal choice/conviction if you will. :D

Re: Anti-Pork??
I have it on good authority John Atkinson has been liberalized from the JA of five - ten years ago.
Welcome home Johnney! LOL! |
Re: Anti-Pork??
I enjoy it... and would eat it more if it wasn't so expensive.
Several people in my extended family raised hogs... they are no worse than chickens for smell and filth, IMO, though free range chickens might be better. But they do smell awful! :D |
Re: Anti-Pork??
I like crisp bacon, but do not eat it often.
|
Re: Anti-Pork??
I used to eat bacon daily but for some reason most of it just doesn't taste good anymore (believe it or not).... It seems to have lost much of its flavor and is usually not cooked enough -I like it downright crumbly, NOT chewy.
But, I DO like pork, in the smoked, slow cooked, pulled variety, completely drowning in Famous Dave's Devil Spit BBQ sauce! |

I enjoy ham at the holidays, that is about it. I used to cook a mean scalloped potatoes and ham dish, but that was back in the days when I cooked.... long, long ago, in a land far away. |

Re: Anti-Pork??
I don't really think about it as being bad; when you live in the heart of beef and pork producing states....it just is!
Good cuts available and generally very good prices.:heart Everything in moderation. :situps: |

You must be refering to the cooking with wine.... always did that... just never used to admit it openly :D Always ate pork too, less now than 5 years ago though. |

Since pigs are so closely related to humans that their heart valves are regularly transplanted into human beings, I guess I'm a little unlear about what you say God told us so clearly through "genetic coding." Help me out here, please. |

Hogs evolved in climates that caused them to develop behaviors of wallowing in mud to protect themselves from the sun and insects the way hippos and elephants do. When they are deprived of that mud wallow they will roll around in whatever is available including their own feces. They will also root around in their own waste for bits of undigested corn and whatnot. They way to discourage this behavior is to keep them in larger pens or even pasture like areas where they can find their mud wallow free from their own wastes and can root around under pine and nut trees. Keeping them in pens and then expecting them to behave like cattle is unrealistic and probably evidence that their care givers aren't too familiar with animal behavior and evolution. Or, that they don't mind what the pigs don't appear to mind too much either. |
