Students want School to remove "Our Lord"
A group of students at Trinity University in Texas wants the Christian-rooted school to remove the words "Our Lord" from their diplomas, the Houston Chronicle reported.
"A diploma is a very personal item, and people want to proudly display it in their offices and homes,” Sidra Qureshi, president of Trinity Diversity Connection, told the Chronicle. “By having the phrase ‘In the Year of Our Lord,' it is directly referencing Jesus Christ, and not everyone believes in Jesus Christ." Qureshi, a Muslim student at the school, is leading the campaign to remove the words. The Board of Trustees is expected to vote on the matter during a meeting next month. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/03/29...est=latestnews |

Re: Students want School to remove "Our Lord"
Some times we date things using the abbreviations B.C. or A.D.
It is my understanding that B.C. stands for "Before Christ" and is some times replaced by a non-religious term B.C.E. which stands for Before the Common Era. A.D. means Anno Domini or "year of our Lord." Since this is 2010 it means it is the 2010th year of our Lord. He's not dead, this is His 2010th year. What is the secular or non-religious term for A.D.? They could use that on the diplomas. I like the idea of using A.D. because it is a testimony to the fact that Jesus is not dead. Our Lord did die but He rose from the dead and is alive forevermore. |

I would encourage everyone to make a decision whereby that would be their confession as well, but it kind of goes against the grain of the Gospel itself to force people to say it. In this particular matter of a Christian school however, the Muslim student had to have known when they applied and began classes there that the institution itself made such "Confessional Statements." If they were uncomfortable with it they should have transferred out. |

I am attending a Christian University (online courses) and we are required to participate in weekly discussion questions via a forum. One of my classes, Christian Worldview, is required by all students to take. The questions that are posted are often religious in nature, and I'm telling you the atheists and muslims in the class really get offended by the Christian discussions. I had one tell me the other day that I was really strong in my beliefs and I should not judge other religions. (Now by other religions, mind you, he means Islam and atheism.) Sorry Charlie. This is a Christian University. Duh? |
