It's Tiger Week!!!

I've always been a sports nut and there's very little in the way of athletics I haven't done. I have lots of favorites through the years...Barry Bonds, Greg Norman, Willie McGee, Tim Lincecum, J.T. Snow, Joe Morgan, Larry Bird, Julius Erving.....

But no one close to Tiger Woods. I told my wife when he was in college, "This guy's gonna be special." And what a thrill it has been to watch him. And it's hard to believe it's already been 14 years.

So today is the big day. He's facing reporters for the first time in just under an hour. And Thursday will be a national holiday for me! I will be virtually unmovable from my couch as I watch him play in the Masters.

I hope he finds success on the golf course, but more so, I hope he finds peace off the golf course and settles the issues that nearly destroyed him. I have no condemnation and I hope he's welcomed with open arms and treated well!!

It actually is the TW logo, which is registered part of the Nike company.

Not interested in him playing this weekend, won't watch it and hope he doesn't make the cut. His wife won't be there, but one of his favorite ho's will be performing at a strip club nearby ... just a coincidence of course.

And forgiving!!!???? ...... “Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.” Matthew 18:21, 22, KJV.

Now in view of what I am sure will be someone's response, do we have to forgive someone who is not "our brother?" If so, how many times? Does this passage of scripture (or the principle thereof) apply to anyone who asks us?

I also hope he abandons budda for the sweet clean Lord Jesus Christ.

Has anyone seen the new Nike/Tiger Woods commercial? This only re-enforces my view that anything we see from TW is calculated and scripted only to rebuild TW's image.

The commercial made me want to :vomit . It uses his dead dad's voice with TW looking into the camera with a sad face.

Well, I won't be watching him. Period.

Nothin against him, but the whole idea of grown men wearing funny clothes while hitting a little ball around on the grass seems... well....silly.

So unless I am in dire need of a nap, I am not going to watch that...

:lolMany share your sentiments. What's funny is, I have the attention span of a gnat and I can't sit through a movie to save my life. But golf, especially if Tiger's playing? I can sit in a chair for hours, no problem!

The commercial...I get what Nike's trying to do, which I believe is, reestablish Tiger as a "pitchman". They're not trying to sell a particular product and this isn't the time of year when they introduce new golf products (November is when they introduce new stuff). Tiger's even wearing a hat that's several generations old.

But clearly, there are a LOT of "Tiger-haters" out there right now and what Nike is doing is handing a can of gasoline to people who are already sitting around a fire. I'd love to meet the people who sat at a conference table and said, "Hey, this would be a good idea." Sorry, but the appearance is that they're trying to profit off of Tiger's misbehavior and it seems they'd run from that. I just think it's terrible marketing.

And I'm bummed that Tiger didn't say, "No." He looks pathetic in the commercial but maybe he's not in a leveraging position with Nike to say, "No." Either way, I'm really bummed at the commercial. Don't like it at all.

I just had another thought....since you're a golfer, maybe you and I could hook up and play! I think we're in the same time zone so we're not that far apart. We could settle all our differences on the course!:lol (hundred dollars a hole, skins)

ha! It wouldn't be pretty, you'd likely beat me pretty badly. I'm terrible at driving off the tee. I can chip and putt great, but driving off the tee is embarrassingly bad.

But I love trying. The courses are usually so beautiful and serene... when I'm not yelling and throwing my clubs in the pond. :lol

I'll send you Tiger's "How I Play Golf". I have two copies. Maybe that'll help!:lol

At our last church tournament, we had a club-throwing contest. By far, it was the most enjoyable part of the day!:)

Haha. I think I try to hit the ball too hard and I end up slicing it. All this golf talk makes me want to leave work and go to the driving range.

As much as I dislike TW, I hope people just leave him alone and let him play. Hope there aren't demonstrators or flybys with messages. Mostly because there are others playing besides him.

This is the Masters. It's bigger than TW and shouldn't be sullied by protests. Do that somewhere else.

Spoken like a true, sanctimonious, self-righteous, holier-than-thou. My admiration is with a great golfer. He had a problem with sin, just like you've had. However, I don't think any less of you because of it.

There are reasons I like Tiger Woods. I don't need to explain it to you.

His facination is with TW as the golf player, not the other.

I neither like nor dislike Tiger. I find the facination with him in this current mess to be disgusting.

I dont think there was anything that should have been reported on at all. Peoples private lives should be just that.

at the same time, I find it beyond disgusting that people would be freaking out happy that he is "back" and that he has "overcome" something.

The proper thing ought to be to treat him like he was treated before. period.

I know there arent many of us out here but I never have understood the desire to get into other peoples lives.

Personally it disgusts me and demonstrates the incredibly shallow character of Mr. Woods. Any man who would use and marr the memory and image of his father in a blatant attempt reconstruct his marketing image is clearly a man who has not learned anything from his 'sabatical' This whole thing is about money pure and simple. I feel sorry for his kids. They get to grow up knowing that what matters is the money. Don't worry about anybody else but yourself.

Re: It's Tiger Week!!!

uhm, i used the word "sick" before. that implies something a bit more strong that I intended. I dont think NOW is menatlly defencent or that his attitude toward Tiger represents moral failure on NOW's part. for that I appologize.

I do think it is a strange view that I cannot identify with. Not because I have an issue with Tiger. I dont.

No you don't have to explain anything to me.

While I'm fortunate that I have been forgiven of my failings, I endeavor to prevent future ones by admiring people with character.

I'm just different I guess.

My family has an emotional connection to Tiger. It's not appropriate that I expound. But I also see Tiger through the eyes of grace and I'd like to treat him just like I would want to be treated if I ever screwed something up terribly. And it's possible. I just might make a mess of my life, at some point, because I'm a fallible human being. If it's not possible that any of you would ever screw it up terribly, then you're better than me.

First, your connection to Tiger is someting that no one knew before this post.

that is different.

but the point yoiu are making about the rest of us isnt valid at all.

I have said repeatedly that Tiger didnt do anythign that I find a need for him to repent to me for, or for me to hold against him. his life is his own. It should have never been made public in the first place.

however, lets also make clear, he has not experienced grace on any level.

On ANY level? Of course he has. From his mother, from his wife, from a few of his sponsors, from me, from many close to him.

My emotional connection to him is irrelevant to this discussion. I told you privately because I wanted you to know...you called me "sick" and I wanted you to know that I disagreed. My family has no emotional connection to Tim Lincecum but when he was busted for pot, it didn't change how much I like him or the way he plays the game. Same with Barry Bonds and all his junk.

The point I'm making about the rest of you IS totally valid. You're a human, so is Tiger, and if you ever do totally screw up your life, you'll appreciate someone like me who unconditionally loves, accepts, forgives, and admires. Ferd, despite the way you feel about me, I love you, accept you, believe in you, and receive you and nothing you could tell me about yourself could change that.

And I can say the same about Tiger.
