visible makeup?

No visible makeup on platform guidelines,

now how does one interpret that?
visible from the audience?
visible from the pulpit?
visible standing right next to you?

just a thought.

Re: visible makeup?

I would assume they mean nothing with color that's not normally on your face. Like skintone foundation would be ok, but not colored eyeshadow. Just my thoughts.

Sounds like foundation or powder is okay, as long as it's well blended. Nothing else, I'd assume.

I interpret it to mean natural looking makeup that isn't out of line with skin color or natural coloring. e.g., nothing blue, silver, fire engine red, etc., and not caked on to the point that all you can see is the makeup.

Caked on:

Not natural looking:

The "condescending coffee cup" Missy B? :blah

Though I do share your ironic approach to Sam's plea for "Scripture."

"Bible? What Bible? Why do we need a Bible to serve as a guideline for anything?"

Oh, hush! I like the coffee cup! Who knows? Maybe I enjoy condescension!! :D

Platform standards/guidelines are an attempt to maintain public uniformity. I don't care for them, personally, for various and sundry reasons. The reason this particular little guideline is sure to cause a firestorm is because it leaves some room for interpretation by individuals. Leeway is a sin in and of itself, you know. :pullhair

I about fell out of my chair, when I opened the letter of platform guidelines of a function, and they wonder why people are leaving?

Good thing about the "invisible makeup" is that the Lord can't see it either! lol

I wonder what God really thinks about us human beings? We've added to the Book and feel justified in doing so because it's "platform rules," and that makes the difference.

I grew up in an Apostolic church where the Pastor preached against everything that moved.... and if it didn't move he'd kick it and make it move so he could preach against it.

Many times I heard him make fun of any preacher that would preach on "love!" He called his preaching "scalding and scraping and pouring in the salt!"

I pray God's mercy and grace is more than we have ever imagined it to be. If it's not some folks may not make it.

Been Thinkin

I wasn't privy to that letter--is that something that's public? Or just sent out to ministers?

miss b, it was given to everyone who would be on the platform, musicians, singers. there were many things listed that I agree/disagree with, I just wanted to know what would be considered invisible? If it is invisible then why would it be necessary?

Well, there you go Miss B.

Maybe it's time everyone had some of that coffee. I think far more people "are leaving" and millions refuse to ever show up simply because of the way the "holiness standards" were introduced and handled since the late 1940's. http://www.apostolicfriendsforum.com...cons/icon9.gif

As I've said before, I'm no fan of the "make-up industry." I don't like the marketing angle that goes along with it. That being said, there are products that can help a person feel better about themselves and don't really matter one way or the other as far as salvation and holy Christian living is concerned.

Who sent out this "Unity 2010" letter that you are referring to? Is it a district thing or from Hazelwood?

no such thing as invisible makeup, just styles. Probably a word used to avoid saying the real word.

Such as saying have a monitor instead of saying TV

Saying going to the ocean verses saying going to the beach.

If I conceal a zit or blackhead with concealer, it's virtually invisible because it blends in with my skin. You (hopefully) don't see the zit, and that's about the extent of it. Beyond that, the only invisible makeup that I can think of would be clear lipgloss or mascara, light powder or foundation. I almost always wear Carmex or something similar on my lips, because it's hard to sing with dry lips. Also, I've worn concealer or light foundation on my chin since I was a teenager. My chin is a different shade from the rest of my face, and I'm self-conscious about it. It was particularly obvious when I was pregnant for some reason. I always use something on it.

I think the purpose is to not look greasy under lights, to smooth out the complexion or cover imperfections. I guess the platform rule would be to allow that small concession without allowing full face, cake or colorful makeup. "No makeup unless it looks natural" has been our platform rule for years. So far, no one's stepped out looking like a strumpet, so I guess it's working alright.

Just ask you pastor why you cannot wear makeup.....then he will probley show you some scripture that he twisted all up to get his belief....God apparently did not have a problem with it...So I don't see why the pastor would but they do...Thats just something else I really do not like about the church....lol just some more stupid extra biblical rules...O you got to love the church.....

Visible makeup, KW. If nobody can see it, it's fine. Like the TV in the closet. :lol

If your make up is obvious, it wasn't applied right. Make up is to enhance one's looks.

It should look natural. The use of deeper colors is usually intended for going out in the evening not for everyday use. Even makeup artists tone it down for normal use.

Re: visible makeup?

My favorite anti makeup story, which I've told before :blah ................

Twenty five years ago at another church in another state there was a new convert. She and her husband had come in through home bible studies in the MPLS metro area and then moved for a new job.

We were also new to the city and this couple lived a few blocks away.
My oldest daughter was babysitting for her children in the summer. She came home and rather amazed, told us how much make up this gal had in her bathroom.
Since my daughter knew make up was a sin she was baffled to say the least.

In a discussion sometime later with a group of church ladies, the topic of make up came up. The new convert told us she thought the reason no one wore make up was due to so much crying at the altar and your mascara would run.

The rule is, the makeup can't come off on your husband's lips when he kisses you.
