EDMONSON, Ky. --
An Edmonson, Ky., man was charged with first-degree criminal abuse after allegations he kept a young child in a dog crate.

Kentucky State Police executed a search warrant on the Bee Springs, Ky., home of 49-year-old David Petty last Friday.

Information from an anonymous call to the Department of Community Based Services led police to investigate allegations that Petty was beating his girlfriend's 4-year-old son with a wooden stick and locking the boy in an outdoor dog crate at night.

KSP took several items from Petty's home, including a dog crate found in the back yard.

Police said the boy lived in Petty's home for the past four years with his mother and the couple's three younger children.

The boy's mother left the home last week, taking the 4-year-old and a baby with her, leaving two toddlers in the home with Petty.

All four children are now in the custody of the state.

Petty was released from jail on Tuesday on a $25,000 surety bond.

Neighbors describe Petty as "strange," and said they didn't see the couple's three children very often, and when they did, the 4-year-old was not with them.

A man is fighting for the return of his son after the boy was allegedly forced to sleep in a dog kennel and beaten repeatedly.

Court records state that the boyfriend of the child's mother put her son in a dog kennel every night for a period of about six months.

The boy's grandmother said when she recently learned what had been going on, it made her feel sick to her stomach.

According to Kentucky State Police, 49-year-old David Petty beat the 4-year-old with a wooden stick and locked him in a dog crate at night.

"When I first found out, I was in shock," the victim's grandmother said. "I'm in disbelief that somebody could do something like this."

Police said the abuse took place at the couple's Edmonson County home. Investigators said they found a dog crate in the back yard and that the boy had been locked inside the cage on a regular basis.

"We will make it that he will forget all that he has been through -- being put in a dog cage, beaten with a wooden stick and when he wet himself, they put him in a cold shower for 30 minutes," the victim's grandmother said.

This woman hadn't seen her grandson since 2006, but she has faith that one day that will change.

"I will see him. And I will hold him. And I will tell him how much I love him. I just feel like I want to hold him forever and not let him go," she said.

The woman said she'll also never let go of the pain her grandson had to endure.

"I would like to see them put in a cage, like he was put in a cage. for the rest of their life. I just want justice, but most of all, I just want my grandson," the victim's grandmother said.

According to the court records, the boy's mother told authorities her son could not stand up inside the kennel.

The mother also said Petty whipped the child so hard multiple times; she had to soak his bottom in cold water to reduce the swelling.

She also told authorities she found child pornography on Petty's computer. However, Petty isn't currently facing any child porn charges.

The court records state when the mother decided to separate from Petty, she took the 4-year-old boy, along with a newborn.

However, the records state an officer told her to leave her two other children in the home with Petty.

All charges were dropped today in court- I can't believe it!!! The mother recanted her accusations and went back to this man. No evidence found and no witnesses. The children are going to be put back in their care.

I just found out he has been accused of child abuse before by other people. He has an older daughter that accused him of molesting her many years ago, but she dropped the charges because she didn't want to be put in foster care.

I am just in shock...

So now we continue to pray for God's protection over these children and His intervention in this situation. Prayers for these children shouldn't stop here, simply because the court dropped the charges. Kristian's_Mom, I will continue to pray.

I think SHE may need to be whipped with a stick and put in that dog kennel...... She is just as guilty for any abuse those kids suffer as he is. This stuff just wants to make me pull my hair out.

Stuff like this makes me feel the same way Randy Wayne! I can not understand how anyone can mistreat children. They simply have no heart. Just makes me so sad for those babies. I will surely pray for their protection.

2 Indicted In Case Of Boy Forced To Sleep In Cage

A grand jury has indicted an Edmonson County, Kentucky mother and her boyfriend in connection with the abuse of her 4-year-old son......

Prosecutors said Sarah Price and David Petty face 10 counts of criminal abuse.....

Petty also has been charged with 10 counts of criminal abuse for crimes committed beginning in 1995, along with 10 counts of sexual abuse for crimes committed between 2000 and 2006....

It appears that he did this in the past and that person has come forward. Maybe that is how they found evidence against Sarah and David for what they did to the 4 year old. Please pray they get convicted this time!!

Update: Court date is March 2011. Sarah's bail is set at $100,000, and David's is $200,000. They are both still in jail as of right now and they may possibly stay there until the trial. Someone burned their house down, all the kid's stuff was inside.

David's charges include 20 felony counts of criminal abuse of a minor and 10 counts of sexual abuse of a minor. Sarah is charged with 10 felony counts of criminal abuse of a minor.

The kids are in a foster home right now. For some reason Sarah has to sign some papers allowing the kids to stay with her mother. We're not sure she will do that, so the kids might have to stay in the foster home until after the trial. Even then, if Sarah and David are convicted, my Aunt will have to fight for custody of her Grandkids. My Aunt really needs prayer, she is very heartbroken over what has happened, she isn't even allowed to see her grandkids right now. They told her she doesn't have any rights to see them.

I thought there was such a thing as "Grandparent's Rights". Maybe it's different in different states. I'll pray for your aunt. The whole situation is so terribly sad. I can't imagine anyone wanting to cause a child to suffer!!

I don't know much about the legal side of it, just what CPS has told her. She is in the process of looking for a lawyer though.
