God demands our love?

True or False:

If you don't love God, He'll kill you.

True. :D

Wow, 2 votes already, and it's a tie between True and False!

Keep those votes comin', folks! We need to get an answer to this one, for sure! :lol

Re: God demands our love?

True breaks into the lead, 2 to 1. Too early to call, of course.

Timmy, just wanted to let you know that I think of you whenever I watch the Veggietales "Josh and the Big Wall."

It was tied again a minute ago, and now True takes the lead again. It's a tight race!

But "Neither" isn't out of the gate yet!

Re: God demands our love?

False. He doesn't kill you.

His holiness demands a response to unrighteousness, even while He still loves us. In effect, it's not murder, it's Holiness. It's a cause and effect.

He's offered a way to escape the curse we've brought on ourselves through disobedience. If we decline, we continue to die and are condemned. If we accept His love, we don't. It's a picture of a Saving God, not a "I Gotcha" God.

Try putting a human mind around that.

If grace is an ocean, we're all sinking...

But God set it up that way, rigiht? He made the rules. And, being God, He could have set it up differently. Besides, the poll doesn't say anything about murder. It says "kill".

God did kill a lot of people in the literal sense, did He not?

OK. Now, if I myself do not love God, I will die as a result of that, correct? It's a sin not to love God. The wages of sin is death. I will not have eternal life! Correct? So, whether or not God throws some kind of spiritual switch to make it happen, He has set things up so that I will reap the rewards of the unrepentant sin.

Right?

Timmy 05-10-2010 02:34 PM

Re: God demands our love?

Oh, and since God has killed people before (condemned and judged and killed babies, children, adults, etc.), it is not unreasonable to think that He will again kill the rest of us (the ones who deserve to be killed, I mean), is it?

Re: God demands our love?

Kinda stuck now, at 4-3. I guess I could vote, and tie it up again. ;)

Timmy 05-11-2010 10:42 AM

Re: God demands our love?

Of course, the thread title and the poll question aren't the same. Sorry about that. :D The title asks whether God demands our love. That answer, of course, is yes. Nobody here (other than a few renegades ;)) would say otherwise. The poll question is about the penalty for disobeying the command to love God. I didn't think that would be as controversial as it has turned out (but I should have known better! :lol). Disobeying this command, same as any other, is sin, and the penalty of sin is death. I guess some don't think God will do the killing, so they voted False.

Somebody voted "Neither". Somebody want to explain? ;)

Just because you don't believe it doesn't make it not so! Why take chances? Your soul is too important and Eternity is long.:)

Just because you don't believe Islam doesn't make that not so. Or Mormonism. Or the Roman Catholics. Why take chances? Better go with all of them!

If you don't love God, you will destroy yourself.

There is no injustice in God.

If my "No" vote contradicts scripture, then I vote to be on the same side as God always.

Timmy,

Just curious. Have you ever gone to God with your questions?

Yes. If God literally answered me, it was by opening my eyes to what was going on. I've never heard an audible voice, but I have felt some kind of guidance. That's how I got where I am.

For the record, I don't think that God literally made a conscious effort to plant thoughts in my head (nor did Satan!). ;)

Muslims say they are not guessing, either, I suppose.
