Ya know...that little "FISH" sign on the back of your car
I realized something yesterday...
My family and I were leaving a restaurant yesterday and as we were walking out, I observed some skirt people walking in, two woman and one man. I recognized them just slightly as belonging to one of the other UPCs in the city, but they did not recognize me. I thought I would try something. As I saw them coming in, I pulled the door open for them saying, "Sister, let me get that door for you folks." They said, thank you for holding the door, and I said to the man, "Brother, you're welcome, any time!" They were looking at me like I had sprouted a third eye in my forhead...until they saw my wife...they brightened up, "HI!! DO YOU GO TO CHURCH? WHAT CHURCH TO YOU GO TO!!" The transformation in their countenance was amazing...but telling at the same time. I realized that the A-standards is how we identify ourselves...Just like the FISH Symbol on the back of our cars... Funny thing hunh??? |
Maybe that's because you've said your wife is beautiful.......lol!
I know exactly what you are saying. |

In some ways it is a nice thing - huh? Nice tradition, regardless of what else is involved. |

Absolutely, it is a pretty neat dynamic, but again, I believe A-standards are more social and cultural and...ahem' religious than they are spiritual...but hey, that is just me. |

Unfortunately, the little fish symbol is about as pagan as it gets. It ties into so much that is contrary to truth that it is amazing that folks from pentecostal churches use it so blithely. (Not saying that you are, but I do see it a lot out there.)

It was hilarious afterward as I reflected that the entire UPC universe of men are pretty much defined to the Apostolic world by the way their/our wives look. When we are at the pool or the ocean in our longs, the whole world looks at us both kind of weird. ...are you listening CC1? :slaphappy :slaphappy :slaphappy:slaphappy |
I went to a section event in 2004. I was clean shaven... imagine that. I was dressed up but I was NOT wearing a tie. "....is this your first visit to an apostolic church?"

Have you ever studied symbolism? It is interesting to see the pagan roots of so many things that we have long considered "christian". NI |

Carp...I have been told that UPC men are identifiable indeed. It is not just the woman who identlfy as UPC. A UPC man is identified by his spiritual walk and prayer life......maybe we did not pray as much that day. HEHEHEHE!!!
I totally get what you are saying. |

We do have the opportunity to speak whatever we want and start threads of whatever topic we want, as long as they aren't against the rules.
Boom said what he felt and Carp said what he felt. Hopefully, we can move on from there. |

Yeah I tore off the "follow me to the friendly United Pentecostal Church" sticker when I realized nobody could keep up with me anyways

This is my entire point. They were looking at me kind of weird even though for all intents and purposes, I was wearing the Apostolic uniform! I suppose I could have said "Gawd bless y'all" in a sanctified tone and I may have gotten a better return... :D If someone held the door and called me brother, I would have known there was some sort of connection they were trying to make with me. |

I am kind to everyone, not just someone that wears a supposed "Apostolic uniform" |

Also, have you ever seen the trinity symbol commonly found on the spines of various theological books? Take one part of that and you have the fish. That symbol was adopted by early religious groups as representing their belief, but its roots are pagan. NI |
Apostolic uniform, what's that?
I pass by a Catholic church and the men dress the same as we do, so do the Jehovah Witnesses, and the FLDS, and Baptists, Lutherans, Methodists.... ARPH |

Similarity is not causation. Im sure you can take apart any number of other symbols in various parts and come up with something....that alone does not prove it is pagan |

I see two possible scenarios. A. They did not want to seem flirtatious. B. They didn't think you were good looking. Think about it. ;) |

You identified the skirt people, but I wonder, would you have recognized the men if their wives didn't draw your attention to them? I mean, would you have held the door and spoke to them that way (not meaning unkindly, but perhaps not saying anything) if your attention wasn't drawn to them? |

I know I am not good looking, no having to think about things there. |
