Las Vegas churches?

I'm going to Las Vegas in October and planning on attending a Sunday service somewhere in that vicinity.

Any suggestions?

Let me narrow the options.

1) Not an ultracon church

2) Must be a Spirit-filled
church

Isn't every church a Spirit-filled church?

Hmmm, interesting. I've never heard of a church that didn't believe in the Holy Spirit.

Have you heard of Cessationism?

I want to go to a church that believes that speaking in tongues accompanies the baptism of the HOly Spirit.

OOOOOOhhhhhhh, I get it now. You think you folks that possess the gift of tongues are the only people that have the Holy Spirit in your church.

It's not that "chapel" on the Strip where the Elvis impersonator will marry a drunk to a hooker for $50 is it?

There is a large church there that is pastored by Benny Perez. It is not what you would call a oneness church but it is what you would call spirit-filled.

I'd prefer a Oneness church.

But the church you mentioned is having a conference that week end in October....

Benny Perez is the Brother-in-law to Judah Smith that has been talked about on AFF a bit. Judah's church baptizes in Jesus name misxed with the titles. Maybe Benny's does too. Would that be a bad compromise?

If you get God involved, He might prefer you to hang out in a casino and befriend someone who is gambling their life away in a desperate attempt to find hope.

But what about that church? Do you think it's "Spirit-Filled"? If a church isn't active in speaking in tongues, is it not Spirit-filled?

I want to go somewhere where if I
lift up my hands to worship God or if tears start running down my face, I won't feel out of place.

The person I'm visiting deals
black jack at a casino. Does that count?

This is what I like about the church Tullock suggested:

Quote:

HOLY SPIRIT | We believe the baptism in the Holy Spirit is a special experience following salvation that empowers believers for witnessing and effective service, just as it did in New Testament times.

BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT | We believe that every Christian can be baptized in the Holy Spirit and is given special gifts that help both minister to the Body of Christ and the lost. (These gifts are found in both Romans 12, and 1 Corinthians 12.)

But if a church does not actively practice speaking in tongues, is it not "Spirit-filled?

It's really a simple question....are you saying that a church that does not actively participate in public "Tongue-talking" in the public worship service, is not a "Spirit-Filled" church?

I don't know what you mean by " actively participate in public "Tongue-talking" in the public worship service,". What are you talking about?

Then you should feel at home at that church. Benny is always preaching about the HG and tongues on TV. Just know that it is a charismatic church so there will be bobbed-hair and panted faces and that is just the guys.

:thumbsup

Every church is a spirit-filled church. The real question, is the church a Holy spirit-filled church. Satanic churches are spirit-filled, but not a good spirit. But to answer your question I think tongues accompany the spirit, but churches that don't actively speak in tongues are still spirit-filled, but possible don't have the gifts of tongues active there in.

I think it is incredibly arrogant for one to look at the First Apostolic Church of 5th Street and say, "That's a Spirit-filled church", then turn to the First Methodist Church of 3rd Street and say, "That church is NOT Spirit-filled." The Holy Spirit operates in many ways besides tongues.

Okay, now I think I understand. (I think)
I don't doubt that the Spirit is working in the lives of those in the methodist church. I'm sure the Spirit is working there.

To be Spirit filled a believer has to be filled with the Spirit or iow, baptized with the Spirit. The evidence of Spirit baptizm is speaking with other tongues

.

That said Laodicea was a Spirit filled church yet they were carnal and dead.

'm looking for a church that is Spirit filled and alive. Prefer one that believes God is one person and baptizes in the name of Jesus Christ, but if that includes dress standards, I'm not interested.

You're making me work way too hard for this. So here it is one more time....what would qualify as a "Spirit-Filled Church" for you? You said you wanted to go to a Spirit-filled church, so.....what constitutes a "Spirit-Filled Church"?

Newp. I'm just throwing a fit about those who say, "That's a Spirit-filled church" as if some churches aren't. And when the cliche is used, it only means one thing but getting Mizpeh to admit it is like getting blood out of a turnip.

So is it possible that an orthodox Methodist church to be Spirit-filled? Or a church that belongs to the Southern Baptist Convention? The legendary church pastored by W.A. Criswell...was it a Spirit-filled Church? Are the crusades held by Billy Graham and Greg Laurie Spirit-filled? Is The Crystal Cathedral a Spirit-filled Church?

Waiting for your analysis.
