Dream Job

I am in the process of changing jobs, and I am looking around at some different options- I have spent a lot of time thinking about what I would LOVE to do if time, money, education, and geography were not an issue. I am still contemplating so if the above were not an issue, what would YOU be doing?

Re: Dream Job

I'd be a lawyer if none of those were a factor.

Re: Dream Job

Hmmm... a Dream job? That would be one that would operate totally independent from my time and energy commitments. Of course that is just a dream.

Re: Dream Job

Honestly, it's a bit beyond my ability to comprehend this. It's safe to say ones direction early on in the teen years direct the future.

Being raised like the Amish, I only got a GED, and when I left I never pursued college at all. While I did plan for the future and built a business that is successful, I am sure things would have turned out different had I entered college...

But definitely, if I could just dream it I would want to be independently wealthy, with only slight hands-on management from poolside.

My oldest sister is an artist and president of the Art Guild where she lives. She looked at some of my work and said that I have great potential. I've never taken lessons like she has and would love to do that.

So, after taking some various art classes, I would love to get into Fresco painting.

This is one of her latest paintings. I love it! I need to spend the weekend with her!

I would agree it can be difficult to really think about; rich, famous, smart, etc.

Question for you, though- will you encourage your children to go to college, Hoovie?

I've always thought I'd love to own an all inclusive bridal boutique........helping others fulfill their dream day.

If I weren't doing what I'm doing, which I love, and there were no obstacles, I'd be a fighter pilot! Talk about the need for speed and "G's"....that might do it for me! LOL

The ability to strap on an F-16 or F-22 Raptor......Lord have mercy!!! You couldn't get me out of the air! :D

Several reasons. One being that I've called our local Art Guild and they never return my calls - fearing the prima donna aspect, which is so prevalent among artists. Hobby Lobby does give lessons, but they are geared toward tole painting, which I don't care for. I don't know any local artists, but I am a member at wetcanvas, which is an awesome forum.

Probably the main reason - I like to be involved in so many things that interest me that it is very hard for me to focus on just one thing for any length of time. For instance, I am repainting the wainscoting in the living room, ripping up my kitchen floor, re-doing four pieces of furniture and then I want to stop and play my Clarinet. I'm ADHD, more than likely. LOL!

I did say it was a "dream" job, right? LOL!

Then I'd be an admin on AFF, of course. :toofunny

Actually I may be facing a similar decision. I think a lot of what I enjoy doing is influenced by the people I'm working for and with. If I could do anything, I might teach English overseas for awhile. Then I would get my sign language certification and work as an interpreter... and maybe as an advocate for fair hiring and labor practices for Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

Open a tea room, not a girlie lunch place - but a real tea room - in a small town!!! Teach table etiquette and manners to young people and offer a quiet place to enjoy friends.

Yes, all my kids have college funds. Just to be clear, this money can be used for other education too - technical etc., should they choose that route.

Re: Dream Job

I am currently producing a kids radio show for the summer, after August 31, I need to find a new job. Unless they decide to keep me which is unlikely because the person I am filling in for is on maternity leave. I have looked into jobs with universities, the FBI, Department of State, and a government contractor who builds flight simulators, it is interesting to be at this place in life- all the opportunities, tons of prayer and daily trying to figure out what I would LOVE to do...

If I could do any job I chose? It'd be a toss-up. Either I would get into graphic art in one area or another. That field is soooooo wide open! Or if I could REALLY do whatever I'd love doing most of all - I'd be a high school ART teacher. We would have the best time!!!

Re: Dream Job

MissPresley, I love your idea (for you!). Come on to this area. We are a small town. And we could use a good tea room. I love to go to tea rooms.

I have a picture hanging next to my computer of my Emmaus Share Group from a couple of years ago. We went to Toledo to a tea room. It's located in the Old West End, in a very victorian building. The first thing you have to do when you go to this place is to go into a special room and pick out a hat. It is required for you to wear a hat to high tea, you know :) So my pic is of the 5 of us all standing in front of the old fireplace in our very cool old hats! It was sooooooooo fun!

misspresley 07-22-2010 07:11 PM

Re: Dream Job

Miss Presley's Tea Room is a dream my sister and I have for a couple of years down the road - we're checking out the town she lives close to - it has huge possibilities. Several courses would be served - of course, scones and devonshire cream would be first course! Our granddaughters have promised they'll come to work for us!!!! they've already picked out aprons they'd like to wear! It's a dream I hope will become reality before I'm too old to do the work!!!! We'll see what God has in store!
