Crab Fest 2010

Crab Fest 2010 was a huge success. We had so many visitors we moved many of our regulars out into the hall and packed the church out.

Then we served 10 bushels of Maryland Bluecrabs and over 500 hamburgers and hotdogs plus side dishes.

There were more people there I didn't know than ones I did. This is one of our biggest outreaches of the year.

Is numbers a sign of success? Did anyone repent of their sins?

Patience. Patience. Patience. Can't bring a baby home and expect him to write a thesis.

I applaud any outreach. Plant the seed and let God grow them to maturity.

I think your post is...well...hmmm...well kind of...nevermind.

As a matter of fact I only know of one that did, but I wasn't in the service because I was doing set up. However that isn't the point of crabfest. It is a way for our church to do something for the community and introduce them to what servant based Christianity is all about.

Re: Crab Fest 2010

CrabFest is the culmination of our month of July Solemn Assembly and a three day revival. Saturday night I had the privilege of leading someone to the Lord, ironically I have been praying for a close friend of mine to come to the Lord, and this person had her name :) The Lord knew.

This woman has never been to church and a friend had brought her. Today she brought her husband and children to the festivities, she said she WILL be back.

Baron, I don't see anything wrong with the outreach your church is doing, really, I don't. But I think my question was a fair question. What is your measure of success?

That alone is the worth effort. :)

I'm not impressed with big numbers, that's all.

After reading this post, if I said what I'm thinking, I would surely be banned from the Forum for all of eternity. What a completely ridiculous, religious thing to say.

The other stuff I wanted to say is MUCH more appropriate.

Unbelievable.

Spoken like someone happy with a church of 35.

What is it Chester Mitchell says? "We count people because people count."

SO I guess 3,000 being added to the church on the Day of Pentecost didn't impress you either?

Big numbers bah anyone can get big numbers...except the majority of churches in America which run less than 100 people.

Actually, I believe 35 was probably the record attendance. "It's not about the numbers" is a statement that only comes from people who are highly disappointed in their number.

Of all the things I've seen on AFF, this statement by Mizpeh is probably the most nauseating I've ever seen. The high-pressure "Score a touchdown on every play" mentality of evangelism produces NOTHING. But becoming a part of the process of seeing people give their lives to Christ is often a long, complicated, and drawn-out process. It can take years of blood, sweat, and tears. Lots of tears. But when we invest in relationships, invest into the process of "Becoming all things to all men" so as to "Reach them", we potentially invest in heartache, rejection, turmoil, and oftentimes, failure. It's risky and it's HARD WORK. But it's worth it every single time. It's the ONLY purpose of the cross!!

The "Hit-n-run" evangelism style of crusades, bumper stickers, t-shirt slogans, and passing out tracts, is MUCH easier....and produces virtually nothing.

To "Become all things to all men" requires "Becoming something." And to "Become something" requires change, compromise, dedication, and sacrifice.

So for someone to come on a thread about Baron's Church's crabfeed and selfishly and ignorantly post, "Yeah, but how many got the Holy Ghost" (or whatever), is the post of a person who has never or may never enjoy the thrill of investing endless hours into the life of a person far from God who eventually takes the ultimate step of faith and transitions the cross from being a bible story into something that's real.

She must use the Apostolic version of Evangelism Explosion...as you approach someone in the mall and say, "If you were to die today..." Only the Apostolic versions is, "Have , you been born again of the water and the Spirit?"

A couple of summers ago a man (not Pentecostal) walked up into my yard as I was weeding the flower bed and said "Are you aware that Jezebels and Whores of Babylon will burn in the everlasting fire at the judgement?" (Item: I was wearing baggy capri pants and a t-shirt, not exactly streetwalker attire. lol) This was the first time I'd heard this approach to witnessing! :toofunny

:ursofunnyI've actually tried a couple of times to answer the 6 questions in a satisfactory way and I just can't get it right. It always ends with the guy trying to lead me to the Lord.

I bet you would have much preferred an invitation to free crabs, hamburgers and hotdogs. Not to worry, Turkey fest is coming in November.

I usually answer them wrong on purpose. If I were to die right now I know I would go to heaven because I have been to church every Christmas and Easter for the last 3 years. Or I was baptized.

The Legalist and Blume would say that and be serious!!!

Blume: "I quit sinning. I spoke in tongues, now I get to go to heaven."

EE Guy: Huh?

Maybe I'll try that next time.

You bet correct. :) My husband would have preferred that too. My inclination was to laugh, but my husband didn't take kindly to the guy implying that I'm a Whore of Babylon. He said "And are YOU aware that you're a moron?". lol

I think it would have upset me too if someone had said that to my wife. What a schmuck.

So what?? If no one was speaking in tongues ON the slide, it was a waste of time and just worldly entertainment.

Pastor Morales and Pastor Gillikan have worked their back sides off to establish a church where they were told you can't build a church. The area is made up almost exclusively of Amish and Catholics. After 7 years they have two Sunday services to accommodate the numbers. This church has been built on servant leadership.

I was going to joke and say, "Yeah, but they're just numbers, it's a crowd not a church" but MissB's post has me all choked up. What a beautiful model of the REAL church you are privileged to be a part of. May God continue to use you and this church to reach the masses! "For God so loved the world..." and "The world" has lots of numbers.
