All Alone on the Mountain

Feeling a little like Elijah?

On a mountain-top, looking at the residue of one of the greatest miracles of recorded time. The fire of God's approval has fallen, the bodies of your enemies are scattered all around, and adrenaline pumps through you as the realization of what has just happens dawns in your mind.

Great victory, accompanied by the favor of God. All would seem to be well in your world. But something is strangely missing in Elijah's mountain-top experience. There is no one to share the victory with.

Elijah sank into deep depression because no one was there to share his experiences with. He sought to find comfort underneath a scraggly juniper bush, and then in a hollow cave. Neither could replace the warmth of a friendly face.

Listen carefully, lay down your armour and just rest for a minute. Let's think about what great things God has done in your life. What victory has just occured at the top of your Mt. Carmel? What enemies have been conquered? What blessing has God rained down on you?

In forum life, we so often share our hurts and anger - and even bitterness. We rail against the injustices of life. We rage against the machine. It's great therapy.

But lets not leave Elijah alone on the mountain-top. Lets share our joys, as well as our sorrows. I will be here for the next hour, Lord willing. Post anything, and I will do my best to encourage you. Share what good things God has recently accomplished in your life.

PP

Mercy = second chances. Thank God we don't get what we deserve.
It's encouraging to know that God loves you and I in spite of our failures.

Randy!, you are still kinda young - at least halfway young. A fifty year old would still consider you young.

Plus, you are a great fisherman, and a pretty good talker!

Just remember who holds the sword for the purpose of "dubbing" one smarmy!

Kutless 02-15-2007 02:13 PM

I can't get to detailed here but I want to take the opportunity to thank God for opening an amazing door in my life in the last 8 mnths.

It has caused me to seek deeper relationship with Him. It has improved my homelife, and has got me once again all fired up for service.

Prayed for almost an entire year for this situation and ya know, God was listening.

Interesting thread.

I was planning on posting a thread yesterday and got busy about Mountain Top experiences.

Many times we think the mountain top is where all good things are.

I remember God told Abraham to take his son, his only son, to the mountain that He would show him, to sacrifice the son he loved.

It was a test, but Abraham climbed the mountain with 2 young men and Issac. He left the two young men behind and continued on with his son he loved to worship God.

By faith, he told Issac the Lord would provide Himself a sacrifice. Sure enough God provided a lamb. But Abraham was willing to plunge the knife into his son to offer his best to the God he loved, but had never seen.

He was alone on the top of the mountain with his son.

Many mountaintop experiences you are alone. It is lonely at the top as the saying goes.

You also have to work to climb to the top of the mountain.

To climb the mountain you usually have to follow a trail that has been walked before.

I think most of us want a mountain top experience, yet we forget the cost to obtain it.

But anything we do for God is worth it.

Be blessed in God!

Of course he was!

I know Kutless, and a little of his situation.

Bro, you are in a good place, have a great pastor, :bliss
and can sing like a bird. If you will continue down the path you are on, God is going to lead you to a higher place. You have multiple talents and abilities, God is going to use them for His kingdom. Remember the following passage:

Psalm 37

1Do not fret because of the wicked;
do not be envious of wrongdoers,
2for they will soon fade like the grass,
and wither like the green herb.
3Trust in the Lord, and do good;
so you will live in the land, and enjoy security.
4Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
5Commit your way to the Lord;
trust in him, and he will act.
6He will make your vindication shine like the light,
and the justice of your cause like the noonday.
7Be still before the Lord, and wait patiently for him;
do not fret over those who prosper in their way,
over those who carry out evil devices.
8Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath.
Do not fret—it leads only to evil.
9For the wicked shall be cut off,
but those who wait for the Lord shall inherit the land.
10Yet a little while, and the wicked will be no more;
though you look diligently for their place, they will not be there.
11But the meek shall inherit the land,
and delight in abundant prosperity.
12The wicked plot against the righteous,
and gnash their teeth at them;
13but the Lord laughs at the wicked,
for he sees that their day is coming.
14The wicked draw the sword and bend their bows
to bring down the poor and needy,
to kill those who walk uprightly;
15their sword shall enter their own heart,
and their bows shall be broken.
16Better is a little that the righteous person has
than the abundance of many wicked.
17For the arms of the wicked shall be broken,
but the Lord upholds the righteous.
18The Lord knows the days of the blameless,
and their heritage will abide for ever;

Dear RevRandy, Most can only aspire to your level of Smarminess!

Dear Ferd, One day you may be accounted worthy. Until then remember "Smarmy is as Smarmy does".

Dear PP [or as I like to refer to you:'Ole Yellar'], I havn't mentioned it before, but you can lay down the smarm with the best.

Love you guys!

I want to thank the Lord for perspective, plain and simple. There are things that are worth fighting for, and many that are not. We must learn to fight the enemy, and not kill our fellow combatants in the process.

Actually there is no challenge to it anymore.
In the words of Jack Buck, "It's going, It's going - It's GONE!"
