Reality Church Los Angeles

Have you all heard of this church? It is a rapid-growing church in LA that is probably thought of by most as seeker friendly. I like the Pastors teaching and the way he presents his points. It is a very young church I think that it has only been going like 3 years. I will list a link to an article about the church as well as the link to the church. I am sure there will be some people that will tear down this church because of their heritage or whatever, but look over the site and read the article and see what you think.

I completely expected to be opposed to this church when I clicked on the article. I'm not too keen on Hipster Christianity. I'm also not for pushing for "relevance," but for some reason this church seems different. Would definitely visit if I were in the area. Will purchase my first pair of skinny jeans prior to attending.

You'd fit in I am sure.

I would encourage EVERYONE to visit a church like this to see how they operate.

Quote from the Pastor:

Quote:

"Our lives are ones of continual repentance, and to repent just means to turn away," he says. "Perfection is not required, but progress is possible."
Quoting Jesus:

[48] Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. Matt 5:48

Which one should they believe?

Re: Reality Church Los Angeles

Michael--Perfection in this Scripture means "complete", doesn't it? I think our idea of perfection is totally different than that, which is what this church website is referring to.

I believe the word of God. But you are misusing this scripture. Perfect means complete or whole. Not perfect like the church is saying.

Which one have you achieved?

Perfection to Jesus means perfection as taught by himself and the Apostles.

If it merely means "complete" you tell me in what way the Father is complete?

Be ye therefore complete even as your Father in Heaven is complete.

What does that mean in the light of this command?

What if I never achieved it? Would that excuse everyone else from doing what Jesus said to do?

Look at it like this:

[12] Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God. Phil 4:12

PERFECT AND COMPLETE IN WHAT?

ALL THE WILL OF GOD!

To God to be perfect is doing all his will.

By the way, tons of scripture supports this. None support that perfection IS NOT required.

Proof-texting a salutation. Tisk Tisk.

This only complements what Sherri explained to you about the word "perfect" here.

Tisk, tisk?

Proof texting is a powerful and prominent way of study that is used by practically everyone!

I did not mean to turn the focus off the "Reality Church" topic. I was just pointing out that the Pastor does not take Jesus teaching seriously enough. In that he is certainly in the mainstream.

Mike

Start a new thread and we will contribute to that thread.

Talk about perfection.

Use some strongs, KJV, maybe a little dictionary input and we will discuss.

Not on this thread.

Both.

We ARE perfect because we have the Perfect One in us.
Positionally we have the righteousness and the holiness of God.
Practically, we work that out in our lives every day.

Well, I read the three page online article.

This sounds like a GREAT Church which is reaching people with the message of salvation and is growing in the Lord.

But, for those who know me, I'm sure my assessment comes as no surprise.

I didn't.
My opinion was based on the three-page online article.

Why, what do they teach that you have a problem with?

The word Holy here means "complete", and we can never make ourselves complete. Only He can make us complete
