Shoeboxes for Belize

We ordered 528 plastic shoeboxes to fill for kids in Belize for Christmas. As of this morning, we only have about 40 left! I'm so excited!! :bliss

We just bought a school bus which some of the guys will drive to Belize in December (or late November), full of the shoeboxes and lots of building supplies. Eddie won't let me ride the bus down through Mexico and Guatemala (can't figure out why!!), but I will try to fly down and meet them, along with some other women. I can't wait to see the faces on these kids when we hand out these boxes!

Sherri, you have the best church! I know you are proud of your people - and you should be! They are the product of great leadership, you know :)

Margie--we DO have awesome people. God has blessed us tremendously and way more than we deserve.

One question...why are they driving through Guatemala on the way to Belize? It will be MUCH easier to just stay in Mexico, as Peten (the northern part of Guatemala) doesn't have very many good border crossings, especially for a bus. I did this exact route in June.

LOL! I have no idea; this is just what I was told. I haven't even looked at a map. So exactly how would you go from Memphis down to Belize?

Well, there are not a whole lot of ways to do it :) Just follow the Gulf of Mexico - Guatemala is a little south and out of the way, unless they have another reason for going there.

If they do need more info they can email me at benjamin.barnett at gmail.com

Has anyone ever seen Toms Shoes? It is a company that give a way a pair of shoes to those in need for every pair purchased. It is a great cause and a great way to get yourself some shoes and give a pair away. Though you might think them too fashionable just think about someone that doesn't have many or any shoes.

My son has two pair of Toms'. I think they're very cool and everyone says very comfortable. I've seen the videos of them handing out shoes in the little villages, and it's so touching. Tom had a great idea!

We are hoping to fly to Belize December 13th (Monday) and stay all that week. We'll do some services in local churches and hand out the shoeboxes at churches and schools. Can't wait to see their little faces! The men on the bus will leave a week before to drive down.

I completely agree. I can only imagine the joy he feels each time he and his employees hand out a pair to someone that has not shoes.

I agree! There is no reason to drive through Guatemala. I have made the trip many times.

If you have very much stuff on your bus...you will want to build a temporary wall in the bus. Buy a cargo seal at the border of Mexico. If not, they will harass you all the way down to Belize. It is all a rip off game that they play.

I have driven five buses and many other vehicles to Belize. I have made the trip around twenty-two times. You all would be wise and safe to team up with others to create a caravan for the journey.

If I can be of a service to you, please don't hesitate to let me know. I can send by bus to the border some escorts who knows the ropes on travel through Mexico. Also, I will be bringing down a bus and van soon...if interested, you could hook up with us and follow us through. I don't have an exact date of travel and will be flexible...Let me know!

Wow! That's very generous of you to offer your help. Our guys have to leave on Dec. 6th, I think. They are talking about getting a flatbed trailer for that very reason - to have it sealed before they cross the border. Someone told him about that. They are stopping in about three places in Mexico, I think, to do services or just spend the night with missionaries along the way - I have no idea who they are.

But if you will PM me your phone number, he might need someone to call if they get in a bind. I may have your number anyway on that information from Sis. Alvear, but I can't remember.

THANKS SO MUCH!!!
