How Does One Become Re-filled With The Holy Ghost?
Is this biblical? Can one be filled and lose it? Is not Christ the chief bishop of our souls? Our we not in His Hands? Is it really biblical to seek tongues and not the Holy Spirit?

Re: How Does One Become Re-filled With The Holy Gh
I've asked that question to T.R. O'Daniel (now head of Great Lakes Bible College, MI), Dr. David Norris (Urshan School) and Talmage French (was head of WPF bible college program). Each has a Masters or Dr. in Ministry/Theology/Education.
Got 3 totally different qualified/softball answers. Those are 3 of the best among us who didn't fully answer it for me when they taught together at IBC when I was there. Welcome to Pentecostal Theology. |
Re: How Does One Become Re-filled With The Holy Gh
I don't understand how one can be re-born again? I also don't understand the mindset that one can lose the gift when the scripture plainly tells us they are given without repentance.

Therefore, the gift of the Holy Spirit is a gift for believers. So, when you cease to be a believer you must also cease to have the Holy Spirit (else an unbeliever would be a joint heir with Christ). However, a person that has ceased to be a believer can begin to believe again. In such a case he can become filled with the Holy Spirit once again. Is this what you are calling being re-born again? If so what don't you understand about it? |

Re: How Does One Become Re-filled With The Holy Gh
Was the prodigal still a son when he was in the hogpen?
Was he reborn into the family when his father ran to him and embraced him on the road? or was he reborn into the family after he bathed and put on a clean robe? How dead was he when he was in the hogpen? The father said he "was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found." Did he lose sonship or the benefits of sonship or was he always a son but just living below his potential and privilege? If that's where you are going with this thread. There is another experience we call being filled or refilled with the Holy Ghost. In Acts2:1-4 the apostles were baptized in the Spirit/filled with the Spirit. In Acts 4:8 it says Peter was "filled with the Holy Ghost" as he addressed the leaders. In Acts 4:23-31 the believers gathered together and prayed and it says they "filled with the Holy Ghost" in verse 31. Now, did they lose the Holy Ghost in between those experiences, did He leak out? In Acts 9, Ananias came to Saul in Damascus and laid his hands on him so that he might receive his sight and be filled with the Holy Ghost. We assume this is where he was initially filled with the Spirit or baptized in the Spirit (3 days after his conversion or birth of the Spirit if you are a one-stepper). Traditionally his conversion is dated as January 25, AD 32 so this would have taken place on January 28th. Then in the spring of AD 47 in the island of Cyprus it says in Acts 13:9 it says that Saul/Paul was filled with the Holy Ghost as he cursed the sorcerer. Again, was he re-filled? re-baptized in the Spirit? re-born of the Spirit? refilled because the Spirit had leaked out? there in Acts 13 If you were a Baptist, they would tell you there is one baptism but many fillings. How do Pentecostals describe it? |

When Jesus told Nicodemus about being born again it was an analogy. You are so stuck on having to have the analogy make sense in every situation that you cannot see the truth for the analogy. The truth is that we know the fate of unbelievers and we know the fate of believers. Unbelievers don't go to heaven. Believers go to heaven. You are caught up on not understanding how people say a person can be "re-born again" but I don't understand how you can say that a hellbound unbeliever can have the Holy Spirit when scripture makes it plain that those who have the Spirit of Christ will go to heaven. So I would rather be accused of having a person be re-born again than be accused of having a hellbound unbeliever having the Holy Ghost. |

Newborns must desire the sincere milk of the Word that they may grow thereby. No milk,
no growth. No milk, newborn will soon die spiritually. Buy a car, fill it up with gasoline. If you don't refill that gas tank, you will eventually come to a screeching halt. You will go no further. Quit eating and drinking naturally and you will die naturally. Quit being re-newed in the Holy Ghost and you will eventually die spiritually! Is that too hard to understand. |

Acts 4:8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, (Peter had already been filled with the Holy Spirit in Acts 2) Acts 4:31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness. (These folks had already been filled with the Spirit.) Acts 13:9 Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him, (Paul had already been filled with the Spirit in Acts 9) Acts 13:52 And the disciples were filled with joy, and with the Holy Ghost. (you can't be a true disciple of Christ unless you have his Spirit in you) Eph 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; (The Ephesians were saints which means they were part of the body of Christ. To be part of the body of Christ they would have been made to drink of his Spirit, 1 Cor 12:13. Paul is encouraging these saints who have already received the baptism of the Spirit to be refilled) The Message: Don't drink too much wine. That cheapens your life. Drink the Spirit of God, huge draughts of him. Quote:
Ps 51:11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. 1 Sam 16:14 But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him. Quote:

Probably where we disconnect is you believe Tongues as the initial evidence of the Holy Spirit and the gift of Tongues are 2 separate things. I never could understand that thinking. Tongues are tongues. The scripture is clear. Tongues is not the evidence of the Holy Spirit, but a sign that the Holy Spirit is working. The evidence is the fruit of the Spirit. - These signs shall follow them that believe. A sign points to what may be ahead, but is not the evidence of it. The reality is the fruit. Secondly, your examples in Acts do nothing to bolster your claim one can be refilled. I do believe one can respeak in tongues after a long season without, but I don't believe tongues to be the evidence of the Holy Ghost, because that would be unbiblical. Secondly, let's make this clear...using an old testament - pre-pentecost character as an example... so what you are saying is David had the Holy Ghost living in him evidenced by speaking in tongues and Saul did too? I thought that only occurred at Pentecost...or are you saying one can have the Holy Spirit and not speak in tongues? Or was David referring to the visitation of the Holy Spirit and not the infilling...because the Holy Ghost had not yet been given...hmnnn |

I don't think we truly lose the Holy Ghost once we have received it, so much as we may ignore or neglect God's power and direction in our lives at times. The real error may be in thinking that we get (as in obtain, achieve, or possess) the Holy Ghost. Yes, we receive the Holy Ghost, but in doing so we are not obtaining or possessing God. Rather, we should be yielding to Him so that He can possess or obtain us.

Re: How Does One Become Re-filled With The Holy Gh
I have seen those who received the Holy Ghost many years ago, (and perhaps there were those who thought their fire had gone out or died!)
Seen these same ones get involved in a conversation with someone who also received the Holy Ghost many years ago. But when the conversation turned to the subject of when they all received the Holy Ghost, that one that had allowed the fire to die down and the ashes of the years to cover the coals; but when they began to REMEMBER, when the Spirit was fresh and powerful within their souls, they would begin weeping, and the wind of the Spirit would begin to blow those ashes off the embers/coals, the flames would leap up again as fuel (Spirit) was added to the fire!!! I have seen this happen. Also when hard trials came and they were deperate for an answer, or their loved one had a terminal disease, or when their kids were in trouble, or other. The enemy had convinced them they could not get back to God, or that HE would not hear their cry. But when the wind of the Spirit would begin to blow when they connected with others they knew had not been disconnected, they began to feel the flow of the Spirit once again, and HOPE sprang up!! The flames were getting higher and higher and the fire hotter and hotter. I have seen this happen. Maybe what was happening at GC was God using some vessels to fan the fire of the HOLY GHOST once again so HOPE would spring up. There will always be those who would rather throw cold water on the fire, lest it get too close them. But there could come a time when things get "cold" in this old world, many willl cry out for the Fire of the HOLY GHOST. How terrible it would be if there were those who never felt the fire because they were distracted because they were too busy looking at those on the platform they didn't like. The enemy likes to distract. to get our eyes off what God wants to do, by getting our eyes on MAN! Why not STIR up the GIFT that in within you! Falla39 |

29And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. 30And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. Genesis 1:2And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. How many Holy Spirits, Spirits of God are there? Even trinitarians say there is just one. Luke15For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb. Most Oneness can't discuss the Holy Ghost from Genesis onward. They just mention the Spirit beginning in Acts. Actually Pelthais says Genesis is loaded with falsehoods and error. (not to be taken litterally) The signs of the baptism of the Holy Ghost is what changes in Acts. Acts 1:16Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus. You all cut corners in Home bible studies? 17And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; I see scriptures that indicates signs of the indwelling of the Holy Ghost not seen before the Comforter returns. I won't accuse any one of false doctrine. I will make you think and ask you to consider some verses that many conveniently don't comment on. |

Number one you can't count. The case of the 3 chambered heart adding adding a chamber means it needs another set of valves and needed to grow a ventricular septum and close it. By re routing the blood flow we have a fatal defect. You cited a case of a decrease in chambers. i cited a case where we had not seen an animal increase the number of heart chambers. You seemed to have missed that in evolution claims. Was this an atrial septal defect or a VSD? I have seen many kinds of cardio defects. so you can't give an example of an animal growing a new and functional additional heart chamber. |

The "defect" arises because one gene fails to be expressed and thus an enzyme is lacking in fetal development. On the evolution thread there is a host of articles and all sorts of information that you were to afraid to address. And so, you "respond" by taking a cheap shot in a thread dealing with the baptism of the Holy Ghost. Pathetic, but typical for "crack pipe coadie." |

Signs didn't change. Dispensations changed. Tongues and interpretation wouldn't be discussed in Acts. Very few messages were recorded there. Acts is a historic record of major events. If Saul and others in the OT had been filled with the Holy Ghost in the same way that people were filled in the NT, there would have been no need for the explanations in Acts 1:8, John 20:22, John 15:26, John 16:7, John 14:17, or John 7:38, or the prophesy in Joel 2:28, or Mt 3:11. |
