How do you know when it's God that is speaking to you?
 

How do you know God is speaking to you? What are some of the ways? What about "coincidences"? How do you interpret them?

Care to elaborate?

I thought God was speaking through my wife everytime she opens her mouth ,because she is right about everything or at least she thinks so.

What are the various ways God speaks to you or let you know a path you should take? Besides a dream or a vision or a "voice"?

Also does anyone have any good books on this topic?

When The Holy Ghost speaks He'll never say anything that disagrees with The Holy Word .Usually when The Spirit deals with me He'll keep at it ,it won't go away till I listen.

When The Sheperd speaks the sheep know His voice,and a stranger they will not follow ,and The Lord speaks to us about Holy Things.

Differintiating between the gifts God gave you, i.e. discernment, word of knowledge, word of wisdom and the voice of confirmation that clearly defines the message it is usually, (to me anyway) in the timing of God and the pressing of His spirit.

In the realm of preaching when prophecy is flowing, the annointing makes the receptors plain to discern. But in prayer or meditation on the word of God, His nudging, (a touch of his annointing or love is indicative of His voice.) But when it comes to foretelling prophecy, God has given me a vision confirmed with His touch.

Thats the best way I can explain it, hope it helps and doesn't come across as grandstanding.

This may be trivial to some but not long ago I had a SUV for sale and as I was putting gas in it, I felt the something tug at me to only put $10 of gas in the vehicle. Well stupid me, thought to myself that I needed to go ahead and fill up so that I didn't have to stop and get gas again. An hour later, I sold the SUV. I could have kicked myself for not listening to that small gentle voice that was speaking to me. Things such as this have happened to me all my life. I have tried to listen more and stop being so stubborn.

When God speaks to you, there is never a doubt. If there is a doubt, it was not God.

His sheep know and hear his voice with no equivocation.

Okay........ some of you have been kind of flippant with your answers - and maybe that is what Prax expected. But I'm serious about this... How do you know when it is GOD stirring your nest and it's not just "life" when situations that you have been content and happy with don't bring that same feeling - frustrations on the job - etc. etc.:dunno

But besides the obvious....like what about events...things that seem to be coincidences?

And how do you know when to act on them?

There was a book once that talked about this. I think it was "God is that really you?"

I can remember Billy Cole very often saying that when the voice was loud or pressing or demanding that it probably wasn't God speaking to you. It was probably self and self will.

He said that most often it was the still small voice that was truly God speaking.

What do you think about that?
