Texas Beer Joint Sues Church

I don’t know if this is a true story or not. I first heard it several months ago. According to Snopes.com it is a legend, but I don’t think Snopes.com has a lot of credibility.

Texas Beer Joint Sues Church
.. .. .. .. .. .. .. ..
In Mt. Vernon, Texas, Drummond's Bar began construction on.. expansion of their building to increase their business.

In response, the local Baptist church started a campaign to block the bar from.. expanding with petitions and prayers.

Work progressed right up until the week before the grand reopening when lightning struck the bar and it burned to the ground.
.. .. .. .. .. .. ..
After the bar burning to the ground by a lightning strike the church folks were.. rather smug in their outlook, bragging about “the power of prayer”, until the bar owner sued the church on the grounds that the church "was ultimatel responsible for the demise of his building, either through direct o indirect actions or means".

In its reply to the court, the church vehemently denied all.. responsibility or any connection to the building's demise.
.. .. .. .. .. ......
The judge read through the plaintiff's complaint and.. the defendant's.. reply and at the opening hearing he commented, "I.. don't know how I'm.. going to decide this, but it appears from the paperwork that we have a.. bar owner who believes in the power of prayer, and an entire church congregation that now does not."

snopes has no credibility. It is just 1 or two people and they google on the same web as everyone else.

According to Snopes that story has made the rounds on email several times with different variations. So, there may or may not be an historical basis for it.

I’ve read that Snopes is just a couple who are very liberal and some times their research is pretty limited.

Just in case the story has some truth in it, Most insurance policies I have had over the years contain a clause "acts of God" and even define them.

I think that while probably not perfect, Snopes is the best place to go to check out most of these kinds of stories.

That is funny.
They changed the name of Obama's birth hospital 90 minutes after WND did an article on it. Snopes follows the latest gossip.

http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=103465

It tells me they never did their checking in the first place.

I don't even know what you are talking about. ????

I haven't been around much lately, but apparently my dilemma is a fairly common one where you are concerned...

I am somewhat fluent in Coadie, so maybe I can help.

I think he is saying that Snopes corrected an error, shortly after another site corrected the same error, and therefore, Snopes didn't do enough research before it published originally. This, in the Coadie world, is iron-clad proof that Snopes is guilty of all the things it has been accused of: left-leaning, Obama-supporting, puppy-killing, etc.

Why did they post in error to begin with?
