Who's Your Mentor?

We are all looking someone who will support us, encourage us, and inspire us to become more then we ever thought we could be. Were the words that we spoke today, to everyone that we talked to, speaking life or death into their lives?

Were we a mentor to someone, an encourager, or a burden?

We choose.

Who is your mentor?

Re: Who's Your Mentor?

My mentor was a man named Bob Dixon who lived in Dayton Ohio. He was a Pentecostal Bible College student when I met him at a Baptist Church one night. He straightway invited me to join a street ministry he felt led to start. I had been with the Lord about a year.

He was the first "Pentecostal" I knew in a close deep way. He put our street ministry right in the middle of the "Jesus Movement" that was happening in those days. Others worked with us as we walked the streets at times till 1 am sometimes witnessing to hookers, gays, drug people and anyone who would take a tract or listen.

It was he who sparked my interest in baptism in Jesus name and Oneness tho that was still down the road for both of us. His Bible College was an Open Bible affiliate and did not tolerate such things. However the seed was growing in him and that kind of transferred to me.

He taught me the post trib rapture and was the first friend I had who believed in predestination. Many days and nights of fellowship with him had a great impact on who I would become. He died a few years ago and is sorely missed.

My mentor is someone that reads this site from time to time. He knows who he is, there is no need to mention names. He and I speak/text frequently and he is, aside from God, the reason I am who today. Our convos have changed my point of view about myself, others and the way I view God. He is the single greatest motivator, IMO, and he doesn't spew jargin. He doesn't like acrostics, but he make me LOL and ROFL. He is my best friend. He is not affraid to tell me what I need to hear not what I want to hear and that is a true friend and mentor.

I don't have anyone that I have considered a mentor in the past nor do I have anyone now that I consider a mentor. That has just never happened for me.

I will mentor you. My first bit of advice is to not have me as your mentor. :thumbsup

Re: Who's Your Mentor?

My mentors have changed through the years. My dad was my first mentor. He was my pastor and my first boyfriend also! I followed him and took everything he said for gospel. My mom was also in there somewhere, but as much as I love her still to this day, I looked to my dad more.

When I went to TBC there were two ladies there that impacted me through their lives. It was the way they walked, talked and sat. Judy Keating and Barbara Johnson, I still love BOTH of them so much.

My next mentor was my ex mother in law. She helped mold me become the person I am today. I love you still Margaret.

At this time, I do not have a mentor. I do not have someone that I can go to and speak to about different issues. (BFF's do not count)

I guess my mother has been more of a mentor to me than anyone. She is Catholic, drinks a periodic glass of wine and votes Democrat. I did not talk to her about anything when I was in the church. And, I learned some things then that we will always disagree on. But, when I needed someone to talk to about the lawsuit and the other things....when I realized the district board would just as soon sacrifice me to Baal than help me out after giving my life to the church....she was there. She has always been there waiting for me and I am thankful for that. :thumbsup

Same here, Sam. I'm just too independent in my thinking to please anyone, mentor or otherwise.

I have a beautiful mentor relationship (myself as the mentee).

Instead of mentoring though, I use the word discipleship.

Re: Who's Your Mentor?

My parents and paternal grandmother, were my first mentors in that they "trained me up in
the way that I should go". As a result, I came to Christ! HE has been my PERSONAL MENTOR
for many years. There is NOTHING I cannot talk to HIM about! I keep no secrets from HIM!
I love Him SO MUCH! I can love everyone, BUT JESUS CHRIST IS MY MENTOR! HE IS THE ONE
AND ONLY KNOW IT ALL! Makes for a GREAT MENTOR!
