Did you go shopping on Black Friday?

My wife and her friend went. After a full day of cooking and hosting Thanksgiving, she went to get in line and Old Navy @ 10:00, they opened at midnight.

Anyone get and good deals?

I had to work today. Hit the thrift stores last Saturday instead, and was much happier with my bargains and purchases.

I think the last time I was out shopping on Black Friday was back in the early 1970's when my Mom and Dad were down here from Wisconsin and we went to the Florence Mall in Kentucky.

I am here for the females in the family. I would rather pay regular price than do this!

I hear ya there. Remember when Denny's (the restaurant) was giving away free Grand Slams? The lines here were between 90 min and two hours. How on Earth could someone NOT simply pay the 5 or 6 bucks instead of waiting for that long??

I mentioned a tempting ad in Timmy Talk a while ago, and then realized: it was a terrible deal! Best Buy bundled a 32" 720p TV and a Wii, for $499. Only 40 at each store. Well, I just priced things on Google Shopping, and I don't think anybody sells Wiis for more than $200, and lots of 32" TVs are less than $300. But when the ad came on last night, all of us thought wow, that's great deal! :doh

Yep, my sister DID go shopping at 5am for a TV. They had sold out of them last night at 11pm. The ad stated good from 5am-11am today. Wal-Mart of course. So she had to buy a different TV, for $100 more.:girlytantrum

At one of the shopping centers here, starting at 6:00 tonight they are handing out a gift bag with assorted trinkety things and a free gift card valued from $20 to $200 to every single person 18 years or older who stops at the shopping center main office. Justin and his friend are both headed over there for it. But for me, even that is not enough to convince me to fight those crowds today. There is not a sale in the world that is good enough to get me out there today!

Re: Did you go shopping on Black Friday?

We didn't go out shopping for that purpose, but I did stop at Penney's to see if they had boots and I found some nice leather boots for $29.99 a pair. Regular price is $130. Jeff bought me a brown pair and a black pair. :thumbsup That was the extent of our shopping; I don't really like to fight crowds.

I went to Lowe's and bought a Square D 220V 30A 1P 10KAIR Circuit Breaker and some screws to fix one of our dining room chairs.

I don't that rates as "Black Friday Shopping"

:)

I went - got to the store at around 1:00 AM. I had never tried this before - but the ports on the back of the current TV were all coming loose and you had to fiddle around a lot whenever the kids changed the gaming consoles... so it's really past time to upgrade. We still had a typical CRT type set.

There was a set that went on sale at 5:00 AM that looked like a good deal. I thought they were giving out numbers - but then they said you had to sit in line for 4 hours and couldn't leave. I found the same HDTV for for $100 bucks more - I paid the extra $100 and got out of there with my sanity.

Given my own temperament and the fact that I'm willing to pay $100 rather than deal with the madness, I'm pretty certain that this will be my last Black Friday.

I didn't go for the most part. It's too insane. I did go to a Thanksgiving day sale last night at Kmart and nobody was in the store. (insert hallelujah chorus here ;)) I got some heating blankets and a few small Christmas gifts. Today, I had to work but before I went, I went to pick up a DVD/VCR player they had on sale and it was a zoo. I went at 8:00. I didn't have to wait in line and got the last one. :) After work I went to Walgreens and got their awesome register reward products. No zoo there.

we went to a store around noon, not so much because it was BF, but because we were in ST Louis and the store was there. Lines were way to long. Kristin shops mostly on-line. She says the there are great deals on cyber Monday... and the lines are shorter too!

I stayed in my jammies until 3:00. Got dressed. Made my way into town. Got a Blizzard from Dairy Queen. Headed home and put my jammies back on! That was the extent of my Black Friday shopping.

We have a Kohls department store only a few hundred feet from our house, assuming you would walk over the back wall surrounding our lot. The cars there filled the lot and the spilled out into the street and in front of our house. So while I didn't go shopping today, it looks like the rest of the world did.

Yes. What can I say? I'm a bargain girl.

Soooooo, with only 4 hrs of sleep, I tumbled out of bed and out into the cold. :groan

I had to be at work at 8 so my stops had to be few.

Shopko had the Nikon camera I wanted at a great price. ( I had 3 mos of torn out ads on cameras so I would know when the advertised price was really a deal :thumbsup)

I also grabbed a few gifts for my husband, son and his girlfriend. The out of town relatives get gift cards.

Did I mention that I crashed by afternoon. I refused to do any brain cell involved tasks the last couple of hours. I was verrrrrry tired.:neener

Drove home, put on jammies and took a long nap.

You may have paid more by going out on Black Friday...

Ultra-low prices for flat screen LCD TVs are typical for Black Friday. But this year, the best deals are expected to come even later in the holiday season and into early 2011.

Re: Did you go shopping on Black Friday?

I am one of the strange people who actually ENJOY going out on Black Friday. My Best Friend and I left at 3:00 where we went to Kohls (got there right after they opened- so no line to get in). Got the stuff and waited in line for an hour, not a big deal and everyone was in a really good mood. People were joking and chatting it up! Aside from one guy who told his wife, "I would rather receive a face lift with no anesthesia then EVER do this again! I find this hilarious because if it was a stadium he was trying to get into, he would have no problem waiting...

Next we hit Old Navy, then Target, then Penny's (yes Bratti, we got the boots too!!). We were back at her house by 7am. I will do it again next year! In the end we figured our savings to be around $800.00, well worth a bit of lost sleep and line waiting.

I will say, though that where we went shopping was in a somewhat rural area, I have done Black Friday's in the big cities before and it wasn't so fun.

Re: Did you go shopping on Black Friday?

Eddie and I ventured out about 9 AM and just went to TJ Maxx and Marshall's. Relatively safe and slow there. We actually tried to go to the mall, but we could not find one single parking spot, and there was nothing that we were particularly needing, so we just left. I did most of my shopping online this year.

I don't have any little ones to buy for right now, so Christmas shopping isn't as much fun as it used to be. Can't wait till I have grandkids! Renda is SO blessed this year.

Re: Did you go shopping on Black Friday?

I talked to my brother-in-law in Houston yesterday.
He received a call from his son at some time in the wee hours of the morning to come help him. He was in line at some store waiting for it to open and he needed a coat, some food, and someone to hold his place so he could take a potty break. So my brother-in-law and someone else went and held his place in line and then they went some place else for the shopping madness. He said they had a great time.

Sam 11-27-2010 10:53 AM

Re: Did you go shopping on Black Friday?

My wife and I have not bought Christmas gifts for each other since our first baby was born. Then over the years when our kids have kids of their own we do not buy for them but for their kids. We have 13 grandchildren and one great grand child and one child who does not have children. Most of them would rather have money to spend it however they want it so Christmas shopping for "stuff" is cut way down as the grandkids get older. Husbands/boy friends of grandkids get gift certificates.

Thanks, but I've got the TV now. Also, my son's birthday is next week so we're going to have at least half a dozen gamers up all night playing Halo Reach and whatever else. The next big flat screen was sorely "needed." I think we were about the last folks in church or around our circle of friends to still have an old CRT set.

And, it was within my budget for a cash purchase. No credit cards involved. That's the price that counts.

I paid $200 less than the stated "average" price in that article.

Recent cable "upgrades" in our area also meant that a lot of channels were formatted in a sort of "HD" format on the screen even if they weren't the HD channel. Everything seemed to be conspiring for an upgrade. My son's birthday perhaps being the biggest factor.
