Zumba??

I know of church folks doing zumba, but isn't that sensual latino dancing?

I want that dog! You have to watch the entire video to really appreciate just how long that dog dances on it's two legs and how well she does it.

Zumba is just a fun aerobic exercise class. I watched a class, and trust me, there was nothing sensual about it. :lol

Yes, it's set to Latin and some Hip Hop music ... it's no more sensual than Yoga ... although some of those Yoga dog and cat positions are on the threshold ... well at least when Cass is practicing :)

Zumba is simply a group fitness class ... my wife teaches a couple herself with the Les Mills program called BodyAttack and BodyFlow.

I'm glad to see that someone brought this up. I had thought about going here in Jackson - they have it right down the road from my house at the Methodist church twice a week. But when I researched it online, several women said that the music is so ungodly that they were embarrassed. That the lyrics were very sexual and they didn't feel like they could go back. So I didn't go.

Is there a Christian version of this music? Are some Zumba classes different, as far as music selection? I see that alot of the classes are at churches, so I figure it can't be too terribly bad or someone would shut them down!

exactly, got to be careful with dancing consdering basis of it is sexual/sensual motives. With zumba the latin/hip hop music is an issue as well.

I would think a good ol swing class would accomplish the same exercise requirements as well as being just plain fun.

Well I checked it out before getting the DVD's. Sensual by yourself for excercise? I don't think so. It is very exhausting for an old person. lol

I am still trying to get through the basics with my two left feet and lack of energy.

There are no words on the basic DVD, haven't got to the more advanced.

It is a great workout DVD. If you can last though it. I finished a bottle of water before I finished the basic workout. lol

I only saw one or two videos on it, it was a group indeed dancing in a sensual way. Might be other versions that are not.

Zumba or samba?

Zumba is a trademarked group fitness class ... in most cases engaged by individuals not dancing pairs.

http://www.zumba.com/us/

What might be deemed "sensual" are the music, energetic choreography, modern hip-hop and latin songs used in the class and the apparel but no more sensual than yoga ... or shockamooing wildly.

If you're exercising by yourself or with a group of women, why does it matter if the moves are sensual? Nothing wrong with learning some "sensual moves."

You would think this was a pole dancing class ... good grief.

Must be the Latin element.

Re: Zumba??

Never seen a sensual shockamoo. The latin element could make knitting into something sensual. :-p

Sherri, I have seen bits and pieces of a workout routine that is set to gospel and worship music. I thought it was kinda flakey. If I'm going to pump iron, I'd have christian rock playing in the background, for that music serves no real purpose... back to the topic. Sherri, the routine set to worship and gospel music is ideal for someone who can't stomach the secular stuff.

OH---- I have!

In her former life she was a belly dancer, so when she "shouted" it had the belly dancer flair. We were at JCM and when she felt the "spirit" all the guys would break their necks to watch!

If they want to exercise.

And we can't be sensual?

I didn't realize that was a sin.

I used to do Zumba quite a bit. Really enjoyed it. And it helped me tone up and I lost almost 20 pounds during the short period I was doing it. I also learned some "moves". lol

If he's watching it to do the exercise, then sure.

If he's hiding in the bedroom with the door shut watching it - then it's not the Zumba that's the problem.

Are you okay with your husband walking in the mall? There's as much sensual stuff he'll see there as exercising with Zumba.

Re: Zumba??

Trust me, your local Zumba class isn't very sensual. :D

Why in the world would a man be sitting around watching an exercise class or video anyway? If he's DOING the video or class, he's going to be working out too hard himself to be worried about what anyone else is doing. If he's not DOING it, then why is he just watching it?

Oh, and the class I saw had just music, no words.

First of all, being "sensual" isn't wrong in and of itself. And I would feel perfectly comfortable learning "moves" with a group of women.

Secondly, if a group of "brothers" puts in a zumba DVD just so they can watch it and drool over the women? That's wrong. That's their problem; not mine.

I would be uncomfortable in a mixed gender setting. Otherwise; not a problem.

I have a feeling if some guy was just sitting and staring at all the women exercising, he'd be asked to leave, no matter what sort of class it was. :rolleyes2
