Sometimes I think.....
Sometimes I think the charismatics can out-worship us on any day. When I watch random Hillsong, Citipointe, Lakewood, or even black gospel choir video's on Youtube, then I watch an Apostolic Choir and band or soloist sing....it doesn't even compare. Why does it seem like there worship is much more sincere than ours? I think that our natural apostolic judgmental spirit might have something to do with it.
What are your thoughts.....?!?!?!?! No pun intended... BTW...I am always a little hesitant before I post a new thread! lol...it took me a couple of minutes to finally press the 'Submit New Thread' button. haha |
Re: Sometimes I think.....
I'd answer that soon as I figure out where the pun is at.

Those "boring" churches are probably just as sincere they just show it in different ways. |
Re: Sometimes I think.....
Me thinks that the issue is that many/most of the UPC/ALJC churches are whatever try to be so anti-charismatic and when they do that they tend to avoid the dancy type of worship and vibe. But we tend to not stop driving the nicest cars and wear nice cuff links in our french or double cuff shirts as the english call them. Just saying.

Still can't find the pun. May take all night, so I shall move on. Bratt is right, as usual. Real and fake on both sides.. Here's my take on this: many apostolics feel pressure to "worship" and may look less sincere because they are putting on a show. The otherside may look more sincere, and very well may be sincere- without the pressure to perform, you see what's in the heart manifest. Just my thoughts. Are you "looking" at the otherside, mister Kiedis?

Wow, you have stumbled onto a GREAT subject, here. I, for one, am HIGHLY concerned who worships God the best. I propose a worship competition in which various demographics will be nominated. They would then each meet in a large church somewhere and each group would get ten minutes to see who can impress God the most. A panel of judges could decide the winner. The panel could have former renowned worshipers, kinda like the NBA dunk contest where Dr. J and Dominique Wilkins are judges. Maybe I could be one of the judges since I used to be a worshiper. I'm not a worshiper any longer, you know, since I've left pentecostalism and prefer to follow the biblical mandates of worshiping God with my actions and life rather than meaningless noise that only gets the attention of people and not God and has people leaving a church service talking about everything except Jesus....but since you people think this stuff is important, just have a contest and see who wins. |

Re: Sometimes I think.....
Honestly, I am still of the opinion that nearly all public worship is nothing more than a slightly disguised mating ritual where men try to attract women and women attempt to show off their competitors.

Re: Sometimes I think.....
Fast forward this video to 6:30, and watch it from there. These people seem so free in their worship. I really believe they are connecting with God.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73ugyV-f3hA Now watch this. It looks like they don't even want to be there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25B65l90vPs |
Re: Sometimes I think.....
Those two vids are probably not a fair comparison united. I do enjoy Hillsong stuff.
But I could enjoy and worship this way too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qo0V...1&feature=fvwp |

Re: Sometimes I think.....
I understand your question. Especially Hillsong videos, etc. It seems that the people have arms raised, faces raised, tears running down their face.... it appears that their hearts are really worshiping. In some Pentecostal worship the focus is merely on 'shouting'. You're not really worshiping until your feet are off the ground and you're going in circles.
For me, when I was pressured to 'shout', my focus was more on myself and not God... trying to work myself up that 'that point'. Which didn't happen often for me, because that's just not the way I generally worship. Thankfully, I've noticed that trend changing in a lot of places. |
Re: Sometimes I think.....
I enjoy down to earth services where what is said can be understood, a good Bible lesson, an encouraging word, anoited singing, and focus on what is needed for the hour we live in...I think we need intelligent leaders ( not just someone with a diploma) that are called to do what they are doing. We need leaders with a passion...

Re: Sometimes I think.....
any church whether it be Pentecoatal or whatever can get into a rut and if not careful the people soon are conditioned to think this is the "normal"....business as usual...however I do feel God has deep things for all of His people...we just need to follow on to know Him...

Re: Sometimes I think.....
The important thing is that when we worship, we worship HIM in Spirit and in Truth.
John 4:23,24 (KJV) But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth Falla39 |
Re: Sometimes I think.....
I like to use the music of these groups but reaction can come from many places within us. When I see the large crowds in the videos I see more of a concert atmosphere than a church or worship atmosphere oftentimes.
I'm not judging anybody or saying this is the case across the board. I'm just saying that people exhibit "excitement" for varying reasons that might or might not be in an attitude of worship toward God and that judging them... or us... by one another isn't a good measure. Anyway... to compare ourselves amongst ourselves is not wise. In doing this we pick up places to focus on that are off the true prize and this begins to duplicate and we get farther off the mark. |

Re: Sometimes I think.....
United Praise,
Im with you on this. The Hillsong type worship is how I perceive it to be around the Throne. After tasting of Charismatic worship early in my walk it made it that much harder for me to fit into the "shouting" Churches. |

On the other hand the young sisters at the Apostolic Church are trying. There are probably not many people in their Church and who knows their reaction to the song? After all the song they are singing is a HILLSONG. Perhaps the Congregation does not like that kind of music? Note the older man in the background. The Pastor perhaps? You are right HE seems to not be enjoying this. There is truly a different dynamic between Hillsong (and Charismatic worship in general) and Apostolic worship. I give these sisters a lot of credit. They may be trying to bring in something that is much better and may be facing resistance. I tried to bring Charismatic worship to an Apostolic Church back in the early 80's. The people rejected it outright. |
