90 Girls Pregnant At Memphis High School

http://www.kltv.com/global/story.asp?s=13837102

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - As Memphis City Schools leaders discuss the best way to deal with the crisis at Frayser High School, one young student is dealing with parenthood.

The Action News 5 Investigators recently discovered 90 girls who attend Frayser High School are now pregnant or have already had a baby this school year.

Frayser is in Memphis City School Board member Stephanie Gatewood's district. She said a former principal of the school first sounded the alarm about the issue about a year ago.

It really is quite unfortunate this is happening, though I can't say I am surprised.

I am thankful they aren't aborting the baby though.

Meaning? 24/7 monitoring? I am not sure that most of the parents aren't approving of sex outside marriage.

Yes. I'm talking about 24/7 monitoring. While my son is currently only 4 years old I know exactly where he is at all times. When kids skip school to "hook up", why doesn't the school immediately contact the parents of absent children???

I believe it should be policy to actually make contact with parents when their child is late or absent.

And sad to say, you're right about many parents.

Well, first most of these kids only have one parent or they are living with their grandmothers.

Second, their mothers are baby-makers too - it's a life-style for them.

Well, they have to FIND the parent first to be able to call them.

The really sad part is that some of them may have made a pact to get pregnant on purpose. I don't think it mentioned in the article how many students they have.

Re: 90 Girls Pregnant At Memphis High School

What would... um, did I do?? School calls home and leaves a message. Mom is at work. I erased the message and took a note to school with mom's "signature" stating that I was ill the day before *cough cough*. Wasn't difficult to get the signature, I learned it in the second grade. First few notes from "mom" were accepted. What ya do is crumple the note a bit. Creases in the paper distract the eye from the print. Ran into a small problem when the school began to require notes from the doc's office. But, that was nothing that a printer and some ink couldn't fix. Renda's posts portray the real world. Some kids live with grandparents. Some live in single parent homes. Mama workin 2 jobs to afford some grits. If the parent doesn't work, he/she is probably turning trix to get a fix. This is the REAL world, Aquila. Children are raisng themselves. Many look to gangs. Some will sell drugs to make fast money. Fore some people sex is a release from the real world, even if it's shortly lived. Babies having babies...

Not sure if this was sarcasm or not, but abstinence does work very well.

Of course it's not enough to mention it though, or even teach a class on it. It must be received and practiced by the students, their parents and the peer groups they are intimate with.

LOL!

I am curious about the fathers of these 90 children. They should be working a job after school for child support.

Before long some of these girls will have at least 4 or 5 kids, all by different guys, and when all the child support and child tax credits are combined, they will be living pretty large.

OK, at least that is how it worked in Wisconsin where most guys PAID child support.

Look at how many students are in the 9th grade compared to how many are in the 12th :( That's a HUGE discrepancy. I'm thinking that this school system doesn't only have a problem with teenage pregnancy, but also a tremendously high drop-out rate. Our educational system is seriously in trouble in many, many places. Couple that with home situations that are far from what they ought to be. The church tries, but we can only do so much. We cannot force these kids to come in. What is left?

I would think that some of the pregnant girls and teen mothers drop out. This is actually a small school comparatively since it is combined middle/high. I think even with protection available most kids don't/won't use it. Sadly I think some parents try to do a great job, but kids are bombarded with sex everywhere. And many confuse sex with love, just like some adults.

Yeah bi-sexuality seems to be the latest trend for girls and guys alike. I was reminded of this recently when I was doing some computer repair on the side for AT&T. It was a nice Christian family, and the oldest daughter (15) was sitting in the room on one of her dad's laptop checking her social networking sites. She started telling me about all the requests she gets from other girls that she doesn't know asking if she's bi. When she answers no they move on.

Like others have said, it's more like a fad than anything else. Sadly, it's a fad that can really mess you up.

I have a friend who works with HIV patients and he is always saying that now kids have sex like shaking hands. Neither of us are old (30), so it's not like we're going off on a rant about the good old days. It's just the way things are.

And let's not forget transvestism. That's the latest latest fad. I have one friend now who's decided that she was really supposed to be a guy. She was showing me all the videos other "trans" people are posting on Youtube about their decision. I guess their counselors are encouraging them to make videos explaining their decision to their friends and family.

Kicking off the "No Baby!" campaign! :)

Probably spending millions to prevent 10-20 births a year.

So, is everyone of these pregnancies God ordained where He "opened the womb" to His blessing?

Or, does sex simply result in babies?

Re: 90 Girls Pregnant At Memphis High School

and then there is what the kids around here call "Christian Sex". They think that because they don't really complete the act, that makes it acceptable in the Christian sense. I've heard of Sunday School teachers who have told their students that that is totally acceptable. :girlytantrum

Now I have never heard of this. LOL

Many people I've been around assumed anything beyond hand holding was fornication!

And heard from others that the only purpose for sex was procreation..........

There is actually a particular "type" of sex that the kids call Christian Sex, but I'm not sure how free we are on here to describe what I'm referring to.
