Beards?
I recently let my facial hair grow again. I had not had a beard for several years, though I did grow a mustache for stint at the theater a couple years back.
I enjoy facial hair - especially in the winter. How about you? |
Re: Beards?
Not really, I think I look better without.:D

Re: Beards?
Since 1982.

Re: Beards?
I like whatever you call that thing men are wearing a lot these days..... not really a goatee, I don't think. It sorta makes a square around their mouth?
My husband can't have facial hair because of his job, but when we're on vacation he grows one of those. Love it on him. |
Re: Beards?
I like a very neatly trimmed short beard or the style AQP is talking about. I don't care for the longer, fuller beards or mustaches alone on most men. But it really depends on the man, the shape of his face, the shape of the facial hair, and how he takes care of it.

Re: Beards?
I didn't vote because I shave every 2-3 days but I would not consider that occasionally growing a beard :heeheehee
|
Re: Beards?
Some men look okay, others don't. I prefer my husband not have a beard. He has on and off over the years.
|
Re: Beards?
I finally broke out the beard trimmer.
I would grow out the beard then shave it off after it started looking too bushy, now I trim it up about once or twice a week and it is all good. |
Re: Beards?
My husband wears a goatee. Looks good!:thumbsup

Re: Beards?
Some just say that I seem to be a little partial to mine, on again and off again during the 60's, and on since 1970. :grampa
Oops! A number of years ago I did shave it off for about four months at the 'suggestion' of a pastor (big mistake!). :foottap Of course, that did give my wife her first and only opportunity to see me without a beard. True statement! She was quite pleased when I grew it back. :highfive |
Re: Beards?
I currently have a goatee. I had a mustache all the way from Jr. High through High School. I have had a full beard. When I came into the "Apostolic" movement in 1982, I shaved and did not wear facial hair until I left the UPC in December 1999. I do shave if I am going to preach in the UPC (which I did three times last month) even if I am not asked to. I always grow it back and love a goatee. My wife loves the goatee but prefers a full beard. Sad that is is all Grey now! :-(

Re: Beards?
Grew one for about six months last year and loved it. Should not have shaved it but did for a visit back to the UPC of USA. Not an issue in Guatemala.
|
Re: Beards?
It was not an issue with the Black UPC brothers or the Hispanics! They just want a little tighter control with the white preachers - to balance out the women and the hair issue. I wonder why they are so fixated on HAIR of any kind? Isn't that weird or creepy to you?

Re: Beards?
Hey, when the host of a party wants folks to dress in a uniform, its not polite to show up in 'plain' clothes.
So, when uniforms are require to participate in the party (religious uniforms verses spiritual unity), I simply decline the invitation. In that way, I can continue to exercise my liberty with a clear conscience, and the others are free to continue on in their traditions. (Romans 12:18) |
Re: Beards?
One morning about two weeks ago I shaved my gotee and stache that I had worn for about 5 years.
I don't know why it's such a big deal in the UPC. Most people in my church and folks i work with did not even notice the difference. |
Re: Beards?
Hmmm One additional thought.
With all of the facial hair finally being exposed here, it is no wonder that AFF is getting a reputation for having a 'rebellious', non apostolic attitude! Yet, I would that our detractors were as zealous for the doctrines of Jesus Christ, as they seem to be for their own organizational rules. |
Re: Beards?
I do miss old Steve Epley around here. Anytime beards were a subject of discussion Steve Epley would come running in with his protest of facial hair.
He knew he had no scripture to stand on but would still holler that no man could go to heaven from HIS church with a beard. |
Re: Beards?
Another thought. I have also been accepted by a good number of UPCI preachers over the years. Of course, I was actually preached out of one church - yes, from the pulpit. But, another preacher married my wife and I, and I was even employed for a while by the UPCI in one of their ministries. So, in all fairness, like so many organizations, it really is a mixed bag.

Okay folks - back to the subject at hand - beards.
Ladies, that seems to be one 'dress code' you get to skip. :foottap |

Re: Beards?
I asked one pastor if I shaved my goatee - would he shave his facial hair?
He said I don't have any facial hair...I said... What do you call those two big black hairy things over your eyes? The whole hair issue is so totally ignorant and people outside the "Apostolic" movement think it is stupid and initiated by men that could not grow facial hair - effeminate men - weak men - that were intimidated by men in the A/G that had facial hair. I think this whole restriction of facial hair on men came from weak sissified control freaks! |

I couldn't wait until I was old enough to shave my legs. And I have the scars to prove it!! I think I was 13 when my mom allowed me to wear pantyhose, finally.:happydance |
Re: Beards?
There were some women in the UPCI church I was raised in that did not shave their legs.

Cindy, the idea was that if women shouldn't cut their hair, that should include eyebrows and legs, too. |
Re: Beards?
I've never grown a beard or a mustache but I have no problem with people having them. I think that the prohibition of beards etc is ridiculous.
If I go a few days without shaving it starts to drive me crazy. It's just what I'm used to so I stay with it. |
Re: Beards?
I preached for men years ago that preached against the women shaving their legs and armpits. One place I preached in KY - the Pastor (Independent) took his teenage daughter (who was a GREAT organist) off the organ because "she went to that UPC camp and got when them worldly UPC girls and they got her to shave her legs and under her arms and I PREACH AGAINST CUTTING HAIR!"
