Should AFF Change Their Name?
Seems like those pushing for the name change are conservatives who don't like sharing the name "Apostolic" with those who don't fit their small town brand.
That said, it'd be nice to see what everyone else thinks. Should AFF change their name? If so, what would be more appropriate? |
Re: Should AFF Change Their Name?
If you vote "yes" -- please take your liberty to tell your "why" :)

Re: Should AFF Change Their Name?
Nope. Absolutely not.
To change the name would only please those who have bailed on this forum and yet still spend their days talking about us day in and day out. To them I say... Debate or depart. Don't sit out there in your four & no more circles discussing us... go on about your business... get a life... buy a good book... I'd suggest the Bible. It has a great ending. :) |

How about we just call it "Bob"?

No. Ultra-con, con, moderate, lib or ex. AFF is here for us all.
We all have this in common....we have deep roots in the Apostolic church. You can take the person out of the church but you can't ever completely take the church out of the person. It gets in your DNA. It is part of who we are. |

The years of hard-wiring in me are permanent damage. My legalistic judgment of others. Warming up to seeing people not in uniform. Feeling like I have to stand on my head to have a "successful" time of worship. Anxiety sometimes about salvation. All of this, God is helping me through, but I no doubt sense is permanent damage. You have your opinion and I have mine. |

Which is why I explained the "sadly" comment about the hard-wiring from years of indoctrination and cultural brainwashing (often involuntary). |
Re: Should AFF Change Their Name?
We have one Yes voter. Can someone check the By-Laws and see if Kyle Stout has veto power over everyone else?

When you believe things in a certain way, beliefs have consequences. They also produce culture. Culture affects us in both voluntary and involuntary ways. Things we don't even think about. If "outsiders" were those with long sideburns, televisions lighting their rooms and mustaches, you consider than for a few decades and it's a pretty well burnt template into your subconscious. It has trained patterns in your brain. This can be fleshed out a 100 different ways. |

I gave you an explanation, and you gave me a trash can. And yes, many people's lives are turned upside down by a man behind a pulpit. You couldn't be more right. And I suppose it's not the pastor's fault. It's those who believed he was the "Man O God," the Moses for all time, and any dissent, disobedience and disagreement would take you straight to the hot place -- or at least "plant a seed of rebellion" which would cause you to "backslide." But yeah... just those obedient people's fault. Especially when they grew up in this since they were a child. No frontal lobes, no ability to adequately reason things through. But yeah... it's their fault. :shifty |

Still a blow-out. I may change my vote. I like "THE 'MORE APOSTOLIC THAN YOU' FORUM" (thanks, Danny Boy) |
Re: Should AFF Change Their Name?
It won't be changed - - ever.
|
Re: Should AFF Change Their Name?
I voted against the grain of legalism and know-it-all-ism.
|
Re: Should AFF Change Their Name?
I voted yes, because I never liked the name. I grew up in the UPC, but never identified myself as Apostolic. I think some regions use the term more than others. Faithchild was a better name (although I realize it could not be used).

NO, AFF should not change their name.

Re: Should AFF Change Their Name?
Outside of the UC's who despite anyone "sharing" the name "Apostolic," (boy do they have their hands full with the Catholics, who have used the name for a good 2,000 years longer) why the objection from others?

12 to 4.
Interestingly, 14 voted "No" with a reason though. So maybe it's 14 to 4. The name-changers still are representing about 29% of the forum! Not bad! |
