The Greatest Preacher in the Pentecostal Movement...

...is your pastor!

When you hear the Huntley's, the Tenney's, the Arnold's, the Graham's, the Booker's, the White's, etc. preaching, you are hearing "the best of". They are preaching first what they feel God is giving them to preach, but also usually a message that worked for them at home, then at another meeting then another.

Seriously, I heard Huntley over a stretch of several years and heard "We Ain't Drunk As We 'Posed To Be" three different times. Great message, even after the third time.

But your local pastor, week in and week out has to preach something brand new and fresh sometimes three times a week. Your pastor has to preach with the knowledge gleaned from counseling sessions in his mind, what he is observing in people's lives, information passed on to him by someone else or things he hears but he preaches on with conviction and obedience. He knows that some messages may end up pushing people away from his leadership and ministry, but he preaches on knowing he has heard from the Lord. He endures jokes about being "longwinded" or goes weeks being taken for granted, but he preaches on seeking the praise of God and not of men.

The local pastor is your shepherd, and like the Chief Shepherd he is willing to give his life for the sheep. His preaching is practiced before your very eyes every time you are sick and he's at the hospital praying for you. His sermons come to life with every act of benevolence he exercises, with every act of mercy and compassion he shows, with every phone call, conversation, smile, greeting, pat on the shoulder, prayer in the altar, and note in the mail.

You know he's praying for you. He's watching out for your soul. He's a God-given servant dedicating his life to help you grow in God and lead you and your family to abundant life in Jesus Christ.

Thank God for the Camp Evangelists! Thank God for the Conference Preachers! Thank God for the great orators He has given us in our movement! Thank God for anointed and talented preachers in our fellowship!

But there will never be a greater preacher in your life than your pastor.

Not patting myself on the back but this is so true in so many ways.

Just being a "great teacher" is not enough to be a camp meeting or conference speaker.

Wonderful post and so true. Thanks

stmatthew 05-07-2007 09:50 PM

I am going to go against the grain here a little, but I disagree.

I do understand that the Pastor has a vital role in my life, but he is not able to bring me to a place of perfection by himself. I MUST HAVE ALL the ministry involved if I am to develop into what God has designed me to be. Therefore I see ALL of the ministry, each one as they preach to me, as the greatest preacher in Pentecost.

By all means, I should agree with this post... It is a very good post. From past experience I can't say that it is true, but I would love for it to be true!!!

Pentecostal Pariah 05-08-2007 06:42 AM

This is the best post ever! Amen!

I totally agree!! I appreciate my Pastor very much.

I am also very thankful for all others God has allowed me to have fellowship with, and that have ministered to me.

But my Pastor is the MAN!!!!

Brother Strange 05-08-2007 06:44 AM

Good Post Deacon...

It just so happens that the best preacher in my life, though I've not seen him for a while, is my dear, blessed Pastor. I've never known anyone to be as much like Jesus as he. I am a blessed man with him in my life and him preaching to me just what I need to hear. Too bad I am not as good as he has preached. I'm still striving.

Digging4Truth 05-08-2007 06:45 AM

Our pastor has resigned and we have not yet begun preaching new pastors so I currently do not have a "Greatest Preacher In The Pentecostal Movement"

Or... I am currently free to choose whomever I prefer. :)

Deacon,

great post.

Deacon and Renda,

I will be coming through Memphis either Thursday the 17th or Friday the 18th of May and then on up through Jackson, TN on my way to Greenfield, TN to preach a meeting from the 20th to the 23rd. Would love to get a chance to see ya'll. I might even spend the night in Memphis on Thursday night if it made it more convenient for me to make your acquaintance. :)
