Joseph was not Jesus' Father. I think he is talking about the lineage of David.

I know he wasn't his biological father, but in the family setting he was considered his dad.I fully believe in the virgin birth of The Lord Jesus Christ.

Re: Bible Trivia Question

You are on the right track, but. If you will compare the two genelogies in Matt. Ch 1 with Luke ch 3. In matt the geneolgy traces back to Solomen the son of David and in Luke it traces back to Nathan the son of David. So, they are two totally different geneologies. The one in Matt is Joseph's and the one in Luke is Mary's.

Luk 3:23 And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,

Notice it says (as was supposed) the son of Joseph. He wasn't the biological son of Joseph but the adopted son. So in the record he was placed first and then Mary's Father second. So Jesus Grand_Father was Heli.

It seems strange to say that Jesus has a Grand Father. But after all Mary was his biological Mother right. Also notice that Mary and Joseph was from the tribe of Juda, and Zacharias and Elisabeth was from the tribe of Levi.

In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God and all things were made by Him. If he was in the beginning then He was the beginning of all things so he didn't have a grand grandfather. He did however by the marriage of Joseph and Mary have two step- grand grandfathers. The lineage of Mary is the one which is important to follow backwards.

Wait, what? Was Mary not Jesus' mother? Real mother?

The Virgin Mary is the Theotokos, the mother of Jesus Christ, the Son and Word of God. She conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit. She was cared for by her betrothed husband, Joseph, who took the child and his mother into his home as his own. One very strong tradition in the Orthodox Church holds that the birth of Jesus was also miraculous and left Mary's virginity intact as a sign; it is also the tradition of the Church that Joseph and Mary did not have relations after the birth of Jesus. She is also called Panagia, the "All-Holy," indicating her closeness to God in her obedience.

In the 4th and 5th centuries debates about the nature of Christ raged in the Church. The debate was about the relationship of Christ’s divine and human natures. At the center of this debate was a title of Mary. Since at least the 3rd century, Christians had referred to Mary as theotokos, meaning “God-bearer.” The first documented usage of the term is in the writings of Origen of Alexandria in AD 230. Related to theotokos, Mary was called the mother of God. Referring to Mary this way was popular in Christian piety, but the patriarch of Constantinople from 428-431, Nestorius, objected. He suggested that Mary was only the mother of Jesus’ human nature, but not his divine nature. Nestorius’ ideas (or at least how others perceived his arguments) were condemned at the Council of Ephesus in AD 431, and again at the Council of Chalcedon in AD 451. The Church decided that Christ was fully God and fully human, and these natures were united in one person, Jesus Christ. Thus Mary could be called “mother of God” since she gave birth to Jesus who was fully divine as well as human. Since this time, Mary has been frequently honored as the “mother of God” by Catholics, Orthodox, and many Protestants.
