Carpal Tunnel Surgery

Anyone here ever had carpal tunnel surgery?

I am scheduled for it tomorrow.

I was wondering how long before you could use your hand?

My brother in law had it done 6 years ago. Whatever you do, do not get both hands done at the same time like he did, he wanted to get it over, were as the doctor wanted to do one hand then come back to do the others later. So when we got to the hospital they had both his arms raised in the air away from his body and hands bandage real good. He was ok until my dad ask him how he was going to use the bathroom, the look on my brother in law face was priceless, pure shock, he said I never thought about that! So he could not feed or do anything for himself for a couple of week as I remember . Today he fine~

I only need one.

I dread it big time. Actually, I dread the drilling in my neck more. Too close to the nerves.

Did you get a second opinion? I have heard the surgery is useless and those that have had it still have the same problems and have to wear a brace.

I have talked to several people that have had it done and theirs was very successful.

But yes I did get a second opinion.

Esther, good luck with the surgery! We will be praying for a quick recovery.

Thanks CC1 I really will need it.

This is my third year in a row to have major surgery. I have had enough already!

I had my right hand done a few months back. Tremendous difference!

They want to do my left hand in June. Not sure if I will, it has not gotten near as bad as my right one did. May put it off a year or so.

God bless, I will be praying for you tomorrow. My husband was a specialist in this area - not a doctor, but an ergonomic engineer with major manufacturers, and he feels surgery should be your last resort. If you have gotten a second opinion and a good surgeon, everything should be fine.

Esther, I will be praying that you will be alright. Seems that you've had far too many health problems these last few years.

I see it is scheduled for tomorrow. May the Lord go with you.

Thank you brother and I agree with you!

I must go now.

I hope to see all of you soon. :)

I have read that going on certain B vitamins can keep you from having surgery at all. You might want to consult a nutritionist.

Don't know, girl, but I am praying for you and the surgery tomorrow, and believing for a speedy recovery...:thumbsup

Esther, regardless, I will be praying for you in whatever choice you make or have made. :)

Hoovie 05-08-2007 05:46 PM

My friend had both done at once, with good results - about 6 weeks to full recovery
