Give Me A Break! ... It's Okay To Lie???

I can't believe what I just heard on the news. A teacher took a personal day off from school today, in WI, to take her kids to the state house to see Democracy in action! Oh, yea!

Let's see if I understand.

Kids watch and listen.

If you don't get your way in life just grab your toys and go home, (or better yet, go across the state line where no one can reach you). That's right... it's okay to run away. Don't accept your responsibilities, just run away! You'll be very successful in life..."just running away!" If you have a problem with your mom and dad just run away. If you have a problem with your brother or sister...just run away! When you get married and your spouse doesn't agree with you, "just run away!"

And best of all you can learn from this experience here at the capital,"it's finally okay to LIE!"

If you don't want to go to school just make up a lie and tell your teacher that you're sick. And there are lying doctors now who will give you a written excuse to back up your lie.

I guess the teachers in WI are getting the kids ready for our college system. They will be so much better prepared for the liberal professors and teachers, and will already know how to get their way and how to lie and be proud of it.

What has this world come to?

frog, what's your question? If you don't know the answer to the lying teachers, where have you been! And if you don't know about the doctors writing excuses for the teachers that lied you must have been across the state line with the politicians!

Did I say she lied? Her fellow teachers that took off because they were "sick" were the liars and she was taking her kids to watch them picket under a false pretense. You and frog will try to defend any thing liberal, regardless!!!

So, is it that she took a vacation day? Or is it that her kids had to skip school?

I don't see what any of that has to do with running away from responsibility.

I condone it. :happydance

Didn't know I had to write a book! :heeheehee

My point is simply this.... Instead of lying in front of the kids, (and the kids know the lies) and instead of condoning and supporting politicians who run instead of staying put and doing their jobs, they should be teaching honesty and dependability!

All I know about the stuff going on is that something is going on and Michigan is a state. I'm sorry I've had my head too far up my own business to keep up with national news.

So, back to your post. I read it. I took it at face value. And I asked a question. Ok? Your title says "It's Okay To Lie???" Then you talked about a teacher taking a personal day to take her kids to the capital. So then I asked where's the lie? Don't have to chew me up and spit me out, thanks though.

Sorry nahkoe. Didn't mean to chew you up and spit you out. (By the way, you didn't taste very good!) :heeheehee

If you've been busy let me make my point a bit more clear.

The Governor of WI is trying to balance the states books. He's chosen a way of doing it, (instead of laying off 6,000 state employees,) that has upset the unions, especially the teachers.

So, the teachers decided to leave their classrooms and go to the capital under the pretense of being "sick!" They were very open with their lie! Then a doctor shows up in the crowd handing out "written excuses" for being sick. Now what does this teach the kids, and many of them were present in the crowd, about telling the truth? So point one would be.... the teachers were forsaking their responsibilities of teaching good values to the kids under a false pretense. (Setting a bad example, if you will!)

Then the elected officials, who were elected to take care of the states business, didn't like the governors actions so they "tucked tail and ran across the state line" so that the Republicans could not vote. (There were 19 Republicans and 14 Democrats and for a vote to be taken there had to be at least 1 Democrat present. And all 14 Democrats forsook their responsibility granted by the people and went in mass across the state line).

Then I hear on the news today that a teacher took a personal day off to take her kids to the capital to teach them about democracy.

Is that they way democracy works? She's teaching them it's okay to lie and to run away from responsibilities. I don't care if her day was a personal day or a lying day, that's not what I want to teach my kids.... the things that her fellow teachers and the politicians are teaching by their actions.

Well I guess that's chapter 1, in my book "Give Me A Break .... It's Okay To Lie!":heeheehee

some questions:

If the teachers call in sick (lie about their health) and don't show up for work, how long will they keep getting paid, how long will they actually keep their jobs without being replaced, and what are they teaching by example?

If the doctors are handing out medical excuses (more lies) are they falsifying medical records?

If the legislators are not showing up for work, how long will they keep getting paid, and how long before they lose their jobs and are replaced by someone who will come to work? Can't the governor appoint people to vacant positions?

Good points Sam. I don't understand my original post not being understood. I was simply surprised that a teacher would try to use lying and running across state line as a teaching moment! What is she trying to teach?

I'd take my kids to such a place. "This is what's going on. What do you think about that? Do you think this is a good thing or a bad thing? What makes it so? What caused this? What do you think the outcome is going to be? Why? What sorts of things could impact the outcome?"

I don't just expose my kids to perfect moments to teach. Sometimes the ugly is a better teacher than beauty.

And, to clarify my point. Even if someone else is doing it, doesn't make it right. Such an occasion could be a really good teaching moment. :)

consider her mentality ---she's a unionist

I assume what she's trying to teach is:
--It's OK to lie to gain what you want
--Intimidation, threats, violence are union tactics to get your way
--what the governor ran on and got elected for with a majority in the legislature is not what the unions want and therefore should not be implemented
--money is freely available for the perks wanted by the unions (even though they are above the national averages) because it comes from the taxpayers
