I've given up. I decided to be happy they're there with their cell phones rather than not there at all. I actually had a guy on the second row have his phone ring, pick it up and loudly say, "Hello" while I was speaking. He stood up, walked to the lobby and where everyone in the building could hear as he walked, explained to his caller that he was in church and had to go to the lobby to talk. So I gave up. It's a war I'll never win. :lol |

Yep, I guess so. I've found that when we say something about turning off phones...and we've tried to do it in a humorous, non-confrontational way...that it'll work for that Sunday and maybe, if we're lucky, the next. But then it's right back where it was and I don't wanna bark about it every week. Recently, we had a guy...lifelong church guy in his 60's that should know better....have his watch alarm go off 3 Sundays in a row at 10:45, which is smack-dab in the middle of the message. He takes meds everyday at that time and it was his reminder. That was WAY worse than cell phones. For one thing, he's a little hard-of-hearing and the first Sunday, it went for a solid minute before it quit. Brutal. It made me appreciate phones ringing. |

Well, you could always put a little sign up to remind folks to turn them off or at least turn to silent. People just forget. |

Love the video! :ursofunny

We run an announcement video and have put it there. Again, effective for a week or two. You know what's interesting...and maybe God helps...I've never had a phone, pager, or alarm, go off at a crucial moment when the setting is intense. It's always been at a point where I could make a light-hearted comment about it, everyone laugh, the person not be embarrassed, and move on. Uh oh...I shouldn't have said that. Now it's gonna happen this Sunday! :lol |

:lol You know, I've always figured if people are falling asleep when I'm speaking, it's my fault, not theirs. |

Re: Cell Phone Video for your Church
Our ex-pastor's wife used to text on her phone the whole way thru the morning worship service every Sunday! The elders talked to him about it and told him he needed to talk to her and tell her to stop. But it never did any good. She still kept doing it.

They run that about 5 times before each movie at a theater, you should do the same at church where it's MUCH more important. Like Renda said, people just forget and need reminders. I know I do! And for those that just won't listen and are repeat offenders, take 'em back behind the woodshed after service and beat the tar out of 'em! :boxing :toofunny |

I like the sign for the screen that says,
"Yes, God wants to talk to you today. No, He will not be calling you on your cell phone to do it. Please turn all cell phones off during the service" |
Re: Cell Phone Video for your Church
That was funny.

What is wrong with people? I have a love/hate relationship with cellphones. I kind of miss the days when I could actually be UNAVAILABLE at quite a few times during the day. :blink |
Re: Cell Phone Video for your Church
I DO have a confession: I've been guilty of texting friends (who were in church with me at the time) and asking them if they remembered to turn off their phones. :D :D :heeheehee
I know. That's awful. But it's REALLY funny. |

Also, I do not usually answer my cell phone if I am driving. I say usually because I will not answer it on a freeway or express way or if I am driving in an unfamiliar area. I do some times answer if I am driving in a familiar neighborhood at a slow speed. I do not try to text while driving. |

Sign outside the Presbyterian Church on Front Street in Hamilton, Ohio.
Honk if you love Jesus. Text while driving if you want to meet Him. |

Next time you see someone looking at his cell phone in church,
do not be too quick to judge him (or her). He may not be playing games on the phone. He may not be flirting with the young lady a few rows away. He may not be organizing plans for after church activity. He may be using the Bible on his phone to follow along with the sermon. |

Great video. :heeheehee I suspect a true UC church would legislate it not be used. There are no allowances for being human. |

Re: Cell Phone Video for your Church
Cell phone! Oh yea! Well we put them to a good use this past Sunday. I announced the Sunday before that we were going to take time during service to call our friends and families that might be missing church and let them know we had missed them.
So, on cue, everyone took out their phones, dialed the number of someone that was not there and we all talked to them together. With dialogue displayed on the overhead projectors we all together, in unison, said... Hello, greetings from our church. If you are a member we miss you today. If you are sick we're praying for you. If you're not a member and would like to become one, we welcome you to join us. But most of all, we want you to know that we love you. God bless you! Bye now! And then we all hung up together. Did it accomplish anything? I don't know, but I'll let you know if it does. Been Thinkin |
Re: Cell Phone Video for your Church
BeenThinin,
The ones on the other end probably thought they were receiving a call from telemarketers from India with all them talking at the same time like that - lol! |
Re: Cell Phone Video for your Church
BeenThinking, don't take this wrong, but honestly, if I had received one of those phone calls, I would have been offended.
I have a policy. If someone comes knocking on my door telling me that it looks like I need new windows, I turn them away. And then when I do decide to get new windows, I absolutely refuse to even let one of those places come and give me a quote. I think that's obnoxious and want nothing to do with them. I think that's the same reaction I would probably have to the phone call. It'll be interesting to see what kind of responses you get. Please let us know. Maybe I'm just "different" :) |
