Re: Pastor Goes Too Far With the "F" Word
How stupid. Yeah, what a witness that would be to text everyone and call everyone "FU".

You buncha armchair quarterbacks, be quiet and go preach your own sermons! He connected with his audience in a creative way and inspired people to be forgiving. I liked it. :thumbsup |

Only on a forum of prudes would someone find fault with a speaker encouraging his congregants to forgive people who have hurt them. But it's ok, I forgive you.:hug4 |

This is what old guys think; That's ignorance at it's finest. Some people have to come up with all kinds of entertaining stuff now days to keep their audience attention. I would think that shirt was all he had to say and then he could have went an sat down. I would have been rolling.. |
Re: Pastor Goes Too Far With the "F" Word
I think that it was brilliant! Really! I guaranty you that the church will never forget about forgiveness ever again! They'll think about it every time they hear someone cuss! When all of the other sermons have faded, this one will go with them to their grave!

Exactly!!!! How many people can remember what they heard even this last Sunday? I don't have the nerve...I'll admit it....to do what he did. But he made a good point and he spoke the language of the audience, he connected, and I would guarantee that people forgave that desperately needed to. But of course, the critics need to gripe. If you don't like what he did, go do a better job. "Relevant" is not a dirty word. It simply means the ability to connect with the audience and produce life-change, something that rarely happens in the pentecostal-performance sermons. |

We don't know if the people there cuss or not, but we can guess that they hear it on a daily basis somewhere. I know that I do. I will think of forgiveness of others wherever I hear it from now on! Is that bad? |

Rememberance doesn't make a sermon great, content does. Relevance doesn't make a sermon great. Obama is considered a great orator, he can sway people. Professional wrestlers make a crowd love them or hate them, cause them, playing on the emotions. If you've got a congregation ready to "Get behind the preacher" just about anything can be said to a chorus of "amens". I'm sickened, saddened, offended for the gospels sake, and I don't care what NOW thinks, that isn't godly, and it has no place in the pulpit. |

Jason, great thoughts.

Re: Pastor Goes Too Far With the "F" Word
You know, I understand attention getters. I thought it was tasteless, but I chalked it up to nothing more than that until he said "turn to your neighbor and say FU."
It became offensive at that point. When he said to text all the exes and say "fu?" Stupid and offensive. There's no way all those "exes" would know what FU meant unless accompanied by a long explanation about that Sunday's sermon. And furthermore, it can be condescending to offer an unsolicited "I forgive you." MUCH better to offer an unsolicited "I'm sorry." |
Re: Pastor Goes Too Far With the "F" Word
Ok you pastors try this in your church and see if you don't get voted out.
