Favorite Memories of the 60s

.......Singing "Blowin' in the Wind,".. Singing "We Shall Overcome"...going to folk festivals, motorcycle riding from college to the lake nearby, the feeling that I could really make a difference in the world, the idealism, the hope, the excitement of listening to a new Dylan album, a new Simon and Garfunkel album, a new Beatles album, believin' that everyone meant well - just being so naive and innocent..:lol *

* I was NOT in church in the 60s.

In the sixties? We had children born in 1959, 1960, 1962, 1965, and 1966 so we were changing lots of diapers, rocking babies, doing laundry, getting kids off to school, taking kids to Sunday School, cleaning up of food, toys, etc.

You know, the ironic thing is that I did.

I won a big "Most Photogenic Baby" contest, so I must have done something right.

It was when I got old enough to be spiritually abused that I quit smiling for pictures.

Lots of memories of the 60s.

The Beatles!!! Oh my goodness!! There was such an uproar when they first appeared on TV with the long hair.

There was this really really cute boy in my Gr. 7 class. He's the first boy I remember wearing his hair like that. He was a rebel! Hehe. :)

Me too. Even when Neil Armstrong landed on the moon.

I also had my first Christmas in 1969.

My birthday July 20th 1969. I was 5 years old. I got a $5.00 bill for my Birthday. Baught a box of baseball cards and candy.

Then got to watch:

On July 20, 1969, Commander Neil Armstrong became the first man on the moon. He said the historic words, "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."
A camera in the Lunar Module provided live television coverage as Neil Armstrong climbed down the ladder to the surface of the moon.

I got to stay up late at night, it was around 11:PM or so when Neil Armstrong stepped out on to the moon.

I was told it took 23 minutes for the signal of his stepping from the lunar spacecraft for the images and the audio to reach Earth.

So when we thought we were seeing it live.

it had already happened some 20 or so minutes earlier.

Yep we had a TV back in 1969 UPC minister's home and all....

Another memory with my family that has been with me now for almost 38 years...

Here is some info on the actual events:

Armstrong set the craft down at 4:17 P.M. (EDT), reporting, "Houston, Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed." Six and one-half hours later, after donning a protective suit and life-sustaining backpack, Armstrong climbed down and set foot on lunar soil, saying, "That's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind." Aldrin soon followed. Half a billion people watched on television as the two astronauts moved about on the lunar surface with its gravity one-sixth that of earth's.

6 Hours and half hours later would take the time to 10:47PM (EDT).

It then took 20 plus minutes for the sound and images to reach our TV's.

I was very close to memory...

This link has then landing at 4:17PM EDT as well. However they were 6 hours and 30 minutes on the moon before they stepped out of the spacecraft. Having Neil Armstrong walking on the moon around 11PM EDT July 20th, 1969.
