Would you give Mom Flip-Flops for Mother's Day?

This was from the local Social Church one town over. Their attendance is about 600. As you can see they have 2 Sunday AM services for Mother's Day.

This ad was in the paper this week also.

Last week it was hot- almost 80. Tomorrow is expected to be like today 50-55 and heavy winds. Cold, damp and very miserable. Maybe, Mom is supposed to think of the beach with these?!?

SomebodyImportant 05-12-2007 11:21 PM

what a practical gift, but some may find it insulting.

Hmmmmmm......kind of weird. I think I prefer the good ole single rose as a gift.

wasn't this just showing that a church was giving flip-flops to all mothers? I woudn't give my mother fip-flops either, but as a gift from a church, that seems ok...to some maybe better than getting just a rose or a pin or something.

Maybe not insulting, but definitely odd. I would think flip flops in as a gift from church only if it fit with the theme of the sermon or something. It's very differnt, that's for sure.

did you see the title of the message - maybe it was don't be a flip flopper for the Lord. The idea is to wear the flip flops to help you learn not to be a flip-flopper.

SomebodyImportant 05-12-2007 11:36 PM

Would you believe that you have to look really really hard to see it!

I found it expressly odd since it was so cold today.

Boy you were on that one quick. I edited and deleted it as soon as it popped up because I realized that you said, it MIGHT be.....

I was trying to think of a message that might apply to wearing Flip Flops.

I guess they didn't check the forecast before they planned their gift. :lol
But you know how it is. It can be hot for weeks before Easter and everyone goes out and buys pretty new spring clothes and it seems like it turns off cold every year for that one day.

Is Jumping to conclusions not stated likely to lead to flip-flopping of position.

<whispers to Tamar>

I did not see THAT title either....

Perhaps this shoe thing is something that WOULD last longer than a pen...... if it caused them to THINK of the church. I do not see it happenning in our church tomorrow, though.

Maybe PO and TheMrs can chime in on the shoe deal.
This man don't get it.

THIS SAYS THE FLIP FLOPS ARE A MEMORABLE GIFT...LOL. I'D SAY SO.

Trouvere 05-13-2007 12:21 AM

Maybe they are giving pedicures at the church and everyone needs flip flops to wear home.:ursofunny

Don't look at me...I'm not the shoe person! :nah

I think pink flip flops are nice gifts for the ladies...even it's just to wear em while you are going out to get the paper or take up the trash...they are handy to have around.

At the Heart to Heart Minister's Wives Retreat a MW shared a recipe for some great hand/foot cream. I bought some jars from specialtyboxes.com and fixed up some little gift bags...Papabear designed some nice labels for me with the NewBirth Logo on them. I'm hoping the ladies will like them. We will give one to all the females in the church and then give the rest to visitors until we run out.

Okay.......... maybe I'm blind, but I don't see where it says that they are giving the mothers flip flops. I just see one ladies' flip flop used as a graphic for mother's day...... Does the the ad actually state they are giving flip flops and I missed it?????? I does say "memorable gift" - but I don't see it state what the memorable gift will be. Are we jumping to conclusions here? :icecream Let me know if I missed where it actually states that. :heeheehee

I'm not sure either Sweet Pea. But I know year after year it gets hard to think up something original...I may remember flip-flops for next year! Of course it would be difficult to know what sizes to get everyone...

If they were giving them away, would you think it appropriate?

Tina 05-13-2007 10:07 AM

I bought my mom roses to plant in her flower garden.. and a nice Mother's day card with a gift card enclosed.

My mother doesn't wear flip flops, so I definitely wouldn't have purchased them for her. :D

I can't imagine our church handing out flip flops to mom's either...

berkeley 05-13-2007 01:44 PM

uh.. right next to the "sandal" you read in size one thousand font "A memorable gift..."

It's the thought that counts. Over the years I have received paper clip necklaces, paper hats, cards, to wild flower picked by my kids, to a mold print of my son hand he made in Kindergarten each of these gift were a treasure due to the thought and proud smile on their face as I wore these items. Yes I been given diamonds, pearls before, but nothing has come close to the little things my kids made with their own two hands~ So if they , my 17-20 years olds bought me flip flop I be very happy~ Because that what mothers do, because a mother realizes it not about the gifts but the thought and action of love that went into it~

addendum to thread question :

...... and live to tell about it?

CC1 05-13-2007 04:30 PM

There is a large charismtatic church in our town that gives first time visitors a nice jar of jam / jelly with a custom label that says " Especially Made for World Outreach Church" and in big letter's "We're glad you came". It also has the church name, address and a sloagan "Recognizing God's Faithfulness In A Changing World".

That's a sticky situation!

berkeley 05-13-2007 04:33 PM

There's a small place nearby that gives away 1 lb of chocolate to first time visitors. I'm a first time visitor once a yr!!:lol

LaGirl 05-13-2007 05:37 PM

Our church gave all the mothers a candle.

Cool.

"GL" 05-13-2007 07:36 PM

We had an assortment of bath & Body type lotions, gift packages, candles, etc.

LadyCoonskinner 05-13-2007 07:39 PM

We gave potted flowers, plants, porcelan(?sp) tea cups, lotions, body sprays, and Large hanging baskets.

Sam 05-13-2007 07:45 PM

Well, if you do give your mother flip-flops, be sure and call them "flip-flops."
Don't use the older term for that type footwear and call them "thongs."

I gave the hanging baskets to the oldest mother and the newest mother. I gave large potted plants to our "scavenger hunt" winner and then I asked if anyone had an old card in their purse and we had a "young" mother that had a card from one of her kiddos in there..Kewl!

Then all mothers got to choose if they wanted a baby potted plant, lotion, spray, or a tea cup.

They liked it and I like to do it!!!
