Polygamist, Under Scrutiny in Utah, Plans Suit to

My wife loves this show, for some reason. It is interesting to see the dynamic of the families.

Kody Brown is a proud polygamist, and a relatively famous one. Now Mr. Brown, his four wives and 16 children and stepchildren are going to court to keep from being punished for it.

The family is the focus of a reality TV show, “Sister Wives,” that first appeared in 2010. Law enforcement officials in the Browns’ home state, Utah, announced soon after the show began that the family was under investigation for violating the state law prohibiting polygamy.

On Wednesday, the Browns are expected to file a lawsuit to challenge the polygamy law.

The lawsuit is not demanding that states recognize polygamous marriage.

When you go on reality tv and reveal your life to the world, you will run into all types of scrutiny. If you KNOW that the life you are living goes against the laws, you are begging for them to sue you.

The gay marriage movement opened the door. Now these people want to have equal rights. They can justify their deal by saying they were born with an affinity for polyandery, and polygamy.

Actually, unlike homosexuality, there's a whole lot of Bible that can be used to support polygamy.

There is and there isn't. You can cherry pick anything in the bible and use it to justify your deal. You can use the bible to learn and prevent mistakes. Look at the household and dysfunctional events in the house of Jacob/Israel. How did the kid deal work out with ishmael born to the bond servant? The consequences were lasting strife.

Sure there is a correlation. If nothing else then simply by virtue of redefinition - marriage consisting of something other than one man and one woman.

I hate so called "reality TV" shows, except Pawn Stars (if you consider that a Reality TV Show)

And they are anything but reality

My wife likes that show but doesn't want me to get any more wives.
I thought that "family" moved to Las Vegas to avoid prosecution....

Laws in the state of Utah that make polygamy illegal are being challenged in court by the family showcased in the “Sister Wives” television reality show. Polygamist family from Sister Wives show taking Utah to court. The suit asks for an injunction against prosecution, contending that because the branch of the Mormon church the Browns belong to practices polygamy, it is their First Amendment right. The lawsuit contends that because the relationships are consensual and are only official in the Fundamentalist Mormon church the family is part of, the state thus has no business interfering, according to Courthouse News.

They are connected in that neither of them fits the definition of marriage being between "one man and one woman." I think that is the U.S. government definition per DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act).
