Any coders here?

I need a program to run our projector through the serial port (RS). The projector comes with the capability but no software. The docs give a list of commands and hex codes. From what I gather you are supposed to use hyperterminal to enter the commands manually

My daughter can do that. She projected a baseball game onto a wall painted white. She is an engineer.

Last Saturday.
Programming is easy. Down loading code is quick. You claim to be highly intelligent.

Ya know Prax, codie is so smart that he's never actually bought a computer program. He just pays a few cents for an index card with a program name and a few lines describing what it does then he goes home and programs it. Gosh, I wish I was that smart!

I found a neat app that you can change the labels and add the hex codes too. Im hoping to try it out later tonight

I actually have a programming degree from way back. My languages were assembler, cobalt/CICS, and of course the omni-present (at the time) BASIC. I am sure someone fluent in C+ could whip up something but it would be a major project for anyone else.

I used to do basic a long long time ago, some Jscript but I never got into it much. I read that the best language for this is C#...Im not even sure people still code much in C++ anymore lol

I took a few classes in vb back in the day and it is similar to javascript. Of course VB may be obsolete now. I don't know. I would recommend VB because it is so simple.

Just to let you know how much I know about it... I thought this was secret language for folks who follow Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings or something.

I can't seem to get the PC to communicate with the Projector. I DL'd an analyzer and will see how that goes

Double checked the baud rate and parity bit settings?

Praxeas 07-18-2011 12:20 PM

Re: Any coders here?

I found out the PC and projector are not handshaking (no dumb jokes please). The baud rate of the projector is 19200, pretty fast for a projector. It can't be changed either. The old one was 9600 I think.

From what I read the higher the baud rate the shorter distance you need, Im hoping this is the case and I just need to install a line conditioner or the other solution is wireless rs232

Otherwise Im sure it's the serial port on the projector
