keyboard suggestions

can anyone suggest the best keyboard in terms of quality sound? Does anyone recommend using ebay to buy a keyboard or any other website that sells keyboards over the internet?

also not sure if a keyboard with speakers is high enough quality. I would like to know if anyone could comment on keyboards with features like quality sound effects.

I would not get a keyboard with speakers. I'd get a board and hook it up to a sound system

This was always a good one. The Fairlight! Favorite synth of Herby Hancock, Chick Corea, and Jan Hammer (who appeared in ads for it).

I have a Yamaha P80 keyboard that I use with the Altec Lansing 251 speaker system (subwoofer + 5 speakers). The keyboard is made very well and the action is really good.

I'm thinking about getting a new speaker system that has clearer sound than the one I have. The Altec subwoofer has a pretty big bass sound...almost overpowering. My favorite way to play is to plug in my Skullcandy earphones to the keyboard because of the crystal clear sound. Any suggestions for a replacement speaker system?

I am in the same boat. I will be getting a house soon and I can get all my guitars out from under the bed but I am seriously thinking about a keyboard.

Does anyone have any experience with using a midi controller and using software keys? I have used abelton in the past but would really like to keep cost down. Piano is not my primary instrument but I play pretty good.

When I get bored, I go here and drool:

http://www.sweetwater.com/

I want to visit their main store one day, it is only one state over.

Kurzweil also makes some very respectable keyboards.

Are you looking for synth or hammer action on the keys?

We use the Roland Fantom and the Yamaha Motif. The Yamaha has better piano sounds, but if you wish to do studio work I like the Fantom.

in my experience most "built in speakers" of any device are cheap. But you can probably buy a set of PC speakers with a woofer and perhaps get good sound but I suppose if it's just for playing around at home built in speakers are fine
