Missionary Appreciation Thread

I am dead tired, wore out, beat down, and sore in more places than I care to think. But, I had to do something to stop these smear campaigns against the hard-working, dedicated, Gospel driven, Holy Ghost filled, Great Commission fulfilling men and women of God!

Now I am gonna put my $0.02 in, like it or not.

I question if these people attacking the missionaries have ever done anything for the Kingdom other than sit behind a keyboard and attack the workers in God's house? My guess is no, and they certainly have never served in the missions field, or else they would not be running their mouth against a Mother in Zion, a friend of God, and a servant in the House of our Lord.

Thank God for Momma Alvear. Thank God for all the missionaries! Thank God for my pastor, Steve barley, who is a missions minded missionary pastor who still... STILL does missions throughout the world from time to time, and has raised up a missions minded church right here in Houston, Texas.

I may be tired, but I can and will say, "Thank Jesus for Apostolic Missionaries and all their hard work for the glory of God!"

You may now resume your regularly scheduled complaining...

For those of us who love to travel and visit foreign countries I know a common thread is that as much as we enjoy a week or two abroad it is always good to get home. I greatly admire those who leave their homeland and venture out to other lands and cultures to take the Gospel.

I hope God blesses every missionary that takes the good news to lost people with a good vehicle to drive, a good home to base out of, and the means to live, buld churches, stay healthy, and visit home. Do they have to have those things? No but there is no reason God cannot provide them. Believe me no matter how many nice things they might have they sacrifice a lot in their work.

Re: Missionary Appreciation Thread

Thank God for Keith and Paula Townsley, former missionaries to Japan, now our pastor and his wife. Here at home, they are still missions minded. In the last couple of years, they have reached out to the Burmese community, and we now have a separate service for the Burmese on Sunday afternoons. Our church gives heavily to foreign missions (as well as people in need in our community), and I'm very happy that we are reminded at least once a month that there are people on this earth besides Americans who need God.

I'm also very grateful (and privileged) to attend church with Paul & Shirley Dennis. They also were missionaries in Japan and Bro. Dennis served in some capacity over part of Asia...not sure what his official title was. Even though they are up in years and "retired", they still actively (and tirelessly) involve themselves in ministry to our community, our children, and Bro. Dennis participates in our drug & alcohol recovery program at the local jail. Even when they aren't on foreign fields, these missionaries are missions minded--which, when it's boiled down, means they care about people. Sort of like Jesus did. I mean really really care. Hands on caring. Attention to details caring. Always a kind smile and a gentle word caring. Hard working caring. Generous caring.

I'm so incredibly grateful for the privilege of having these people in my life and in the lives of our children. What a privilege and HONOR to serve God alongside pioneers of the faith who have proven the veracity of their words with their life.

Speaking of which my wife and I are taking a missions trip next May where for 15 nights we will be reaching out to other people on the cruise ship as we cross the Atlantic and make stops at The Canary Islands, Spain, France, and Italy. Once we dock in Rome we are spending four nights there before flying home. We plan on evangelizing during our visit to the Vatican (trying to get special tickets to a secret tour that goes underneath St. Peters to the box with the bones the RC church believes are Peter's). If anybody wants to contribute to my vacation...er....missions trip please PM me! Cash and checks are welcome along with PayPal.

I don't think it's much of a surprise where I come out on this. :)

However, I appreciate every sacrifice made by any person for the furtherance of the gospel in every corner of the earth (including my own). God bless them all.
