Winds of God

Quote:

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

LOL!!! I find it very interesting and I am sure it is shocking to many folks who have grown up in the Oneness Pentecostal movement in the latter part of the 20th century and beginning of the 21st century.

I would have never dreamed a quote like that existed from my upbringing in the UPC and UPC college education. Diversity from the current UPC / Oneness doctrines / traditions are hidden in the basement like a crazy old aunt!

Nobody can answer that but you, really.

I have a copy but paid nowhere near that. But I bought it long before it was so popular because of this quote.

I got a copy at Youth Congress in 2009 for 12$. I saw this book bundled with a bunch of other books at one of the Michigan conferences this year as part of a "Must read to become a licensed (something)" package.

It is a good book on showing the excitement of being led by the Spirit. If I had a lot of money it would be worth it. He does not if I recall even mention the Oneness aspects of the revival. That was disappointing to me.

The only other books of men I would pay that kind of money for would be:

The Phenomenon Of Pentecost-Frank Ewart

The definitive story of the early Pentecostal Movement from a Oneness view. To me this is heavyweight at least historically.

The Cross and The Switchblade-Dave Wilkerson

Put a desire in me to want to be a disciple (before I was ever saved) like the ones in the Bible. Dramatic conversions from the gangs of New York. Hit me so hard I guess because in the hood I just moved into at that time (being 12 years old) it was just like what Wilkerson was describing in New York City.
