Earthquake in the dc area!

I know Baron and his immediate family were in that area last I had any contact with him-- along with my family too. If you guys have any loved ones there, my Mom just told me that the area was definitely shaken, but she doesn't think it was enough to kill anyone.

I tell you what-- talk about someone's heart pounding!

Live in Prince George's County in Maryland, was at work in DC. Wasn't one of the lucky ones that got to evacuate and go home. The DC area seems fine, traffic is going to be hectic because there are some major roads being inspected. At work we were already watching the news because of the situation in Libya. We felt the quake (it was a little bit insane to feel). My first real earthquake. Thank God for the name of Jesus, that's really all I could say. He is a wonder. I haven't heard any reports of injuries or deaths even in VA near the epicenter. Praying this good news continues.

Also please keep DC Police in your prayers. I am hearing rumors that inmates are trying to escape at a local prison. Not sure about the validity of those rumors, but it never hurts to be safe.

Have family in VA. Shook my nephew out of bed, his mom said it shook her truck real bad, so she turned around and went home.

And, to think a hurricane is headed in that general direction...

I'd be high-tailing it out of there for about the next week or so. Who knows with quakes? Aftershocks usually follow, then to worry about a 'cane in another few days...

As one friend put it on FB, it wasn't a quake. It was our forefathers rolling in their graves. LOL! Oh, wait...that's for another thread... :D

Several of my friends and colleagues were sweeping and scanning chimneys at the White House when the quaking started. Here they are on video!

A lot of people don't associate the East Coast with earthquakes, however there are quite a large number of active faults in the region.

On the average, there is a Magnitude 5 earthquake every hour somewhere on the globe.

Re: Earthquake in the dc area!

I was sitting in my van in the middle of my driveway when it hit... I live in Delaware. I thought my husband was clowning around jumping up and down on my van bumper. Then, when I realized he wasn't, I thought "Oh great, something is wrong with my van making it huckle-buck." Then it stopped, and I went about my business wondering what was wrong with my van. It was 10 minutes later when my daughter called to see if everything was ok from the earthquake. I'm like, "HUH? Earthquake?" She was 15 minutes away and they got shook up pretty good at her college. Third floor. They evacuated. I dunno. I guess being in the van cushioned it for me, cuz I thought it was nothing. LOL.

LOL! Thanks, I didn't think Thomas sounded right, but I didn't check it. I think I was laughing too hard when I read the post because I knew who they were talking about. :toofunny

Don't you wonder what was going thru the minds of those men on the roof of the WhiteHouse when this happened? I'm assuming they are there for security reasons. So did they think it might have been some sort of attack? Or did they realize right away that it was an earthquake?

They should realize, that was only a warning shot.

I was serious about these men being chimney sweeps. They were sweeping and scanning all the White House chimneys. I know several of them and see them at our conventions and guild meetings. From their list posts immediately following event, it appears they figured it out pretty quick. The entire building was evacuated and left them sitting on the side walk the rest of the afternoon. I understand they were allowed back in today.
