Fires In East Texas

It seems like so many county's in East Texas are reporting fires. We have been fortunate so far. But, they are almost all around us. Please pray for us.

The wind isn't helping either. We made a quick trip out of town today. Just got home and one of our trees fell and crushed part of our fence. Arrghh!

We can also smell some brush burning somewhere. We have a burn ban, so I don't know where its coming from

Yes, we are all praying!

A couple of my family members have evacuated, it's all around us, too, and the clothes we hung up to dry outside are sure to smell like smoke!

We need rain!

Catastrophic fires burn thousands of acres, force evacuations across Central Texas
Fires in Bastrop County, Spicewood, Steiner Ranch, Pflugerville, others driven by wind and dry conditions.

The largest and most destructive fire was in Bastrop County, where a blaze burned 14,000 acres and grew to an estimated 16 miles long by the end of the day, said Mark Stanford, fire chief of the Texas Forest Service.

Firefighters battled a blaze in a part of the Steiner Ranch subdivision northwest of Austin that destroyed at least 25 homes and forced hundreds to evacuate. RM 620 was closed in both directions near the subdivision for hours.

Florida gets wildfires too. I hope that the death and destruction does not touch any of God's people.

Have they called up the National Guard to help with this situation in Texas? When the fires become intense in FLorida, teh Guard is called to duty to help augment the firefighters.

Fires have now started in Central Texas.

The two deaths in East Texas today were a young mother and her toddler. Pray for her family please.

I don't know Jermyn, I haven't seen anything on the news.

Governor Perry is cutting short his trip and is back in Texas today.

There are fires near my town. We can see the smoke. Some people a few miles out were evacuated due to the smoke but are not immediately threatened by the fire.

One of the problems is these are small volunteer fire depts. Even though they have help from the air, it's still just wearing them all out I'm sure.

A sister in our church asked me to send this to our church prayer list. Let's all pray for all of those who are being affected by these fires, in Jesus Name!

"Asking the church to please pray for a close friend that had to evacuate from her home in Bastrop,TX because of the fires. The fire is now not far from my sister. A town 10 miles from her has already had to evacuate from their homes. My sister's town is under a warning for now.
Thank you for the prayers and I will keep everyone posted".

This feels so eery and a little scary to smell the burning and this smoky haze all around. It looks like rain on the horizon, but it's smoke.

Wow, we were right here Sunday morning. I guess the house we saw burning was a part of starting this. The wind was so tremendous. We ate at Southside in Elgin and the lights went out from all the wind.

The pine trees are like kerosene.

Federal officials arrived in Bastrop today and are turning away volunteer firefighters. They want them to have filled out paperwork. LOL! "If you are a fire fighter wanting to volunteer you have to be activated by the National Forestry Service first.”

Yes, let people's homes burn to the ground while people jump through your hoops! :smack

I actually saw a Tweet yesterday that said "CENTRAL TEXAS DOES NOT NEED FIRE FIGHTERS. Please quit re-posting. Its false information."

On one hand, I'd think they need all the help they can get. On the other, maybe it's too much of a loophole to keep up with who's fighting what fire where. IDK. It's scary, nonetheless...

A friend of mine and her husband live near Plantersville in Grimes County. She said all her neighbors have left except a few. For those who have left, she's watched trucks of people coming in afterward and burglarize homes.

As if the wildfire itself isn't stressful enough...

Yea, people drove from as far as Brownsville, on their own dime to help.

That is part of it, I'm sure. And I can understand if you use people who are eager to help, but make bad judgments because they are inexperienced.
