Restoration of the kingdom to Israel
Dear Bible students,
Acts 1 6When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? 7And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. 8But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. What do you guys think of the question the disciples asked Jesus in Acts 1:6? I know Jesus basically said "no one would know the time..." I was just wondering if there are more insights into this? Thanks in advance, AFF |

Jesus did not say anything to make them think Israel would not be restored.

Re: Restoration of the kingdom to Israel
where does the bible say that the kingdom will be restored to israel? the physical kingdom taken from the romans and given back to the jews?
Are you awaiting the coming of messiah to destroy Israel's enemies and set up a kingdom where gentile will serve the Jew? That's what the Jews are waiting for. |

But the disciples were expecting a kingdom restoration to Israel, else why would they have asked the question in Acts 1:6? So i'm trying to see what others think. Is it spiritual? Is it physical? We know the kingdom was definitely taken from them as per Jesus' own words in Matt 21:43. Matt 21:43 Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof. So based on Jesus' statement, I guess the kingdom taken from Israel was a spiritual kingdom. So does this mean the spiritual kingdom will someday be restored Israel? (the disciples seem to be expecting such restoration based on Acts 1:6) |
Re: Restoration of the kingdom to Israel
I have never looked at it like that. Things that make you go, hmm. If it does happen I don't see it taking place the way that the darbyites believe. EVEN Mike Blume somewot makes room for that possibility when he says, "If God returned to the Jews I have no problem with that."

Galatians 3:29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Romans 9:8 In other words, it is not the natural children who are God's children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham's offspring. |

Those that are in Christ are that promised seed. Romans 9:8 In other words, it is not the natural children who are God's children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham's offspring. Are we to go back to a natural kingdom? |
Re: Restoration of the kingdom to Israel
The leadership of the assembly that I attend believes "God hasn't fulfilled all of His covenants with Israel." That is a direct quote from the pulpit.

We see that Jesus did not say the kingdom will not come, but that they just should not worry about the timing... Anyway, this question asked by the disciples was something that puzzled me... I think another thing also would be if we determine what/when the kingdom was taken from Israel |

If Apostolics did with doctrine what they do with prophecy, who knows what nonsense of salvation they would come up with? MTD, would you claim we can look at how to be saved through the perspective of saying that whatever Jesus and the apostles DID NOT specifically speak AGAINST are things we can believe for in regards to how to be saved? We're so stringent on what the apostles explicitly preached for salvation and allow for no assumption, but it's totally opposite for prophecy beliefs. |
