Gateway College is now accredited...
As of yesterday, the vote was passed at GC11. Gateway College of Evangelism has been aquired by the UPCI and will cease to exist after this school year is up. The new school will open in fall 2011. Also, the name will change. It will be ??? University. This school will be the first ever UPCI University, and the first out of all the UPCI bible college's to obtain accreditation. Get ready to see enrollment sky rocket.

Fall of 2011?
Long overdue. All of the Bible schools are struggling to get students and why not? They have been promising accreditation for years, even have received offerings to try to accomplish such but to no avail. I was told that all of the Bible school presidents were approached about consolidating for the purpose of establishing an accredited college. It was resisted. So this must be the move in spite of the Bible schools. This will put the Bible schools out of business or they will get on the ball and finally attain accreditation. I would venture to say ABI, IBC, TBC and CLC will not be able to remain viable. UPC young people will be drawn to St. Louis in order to get a real degree and have something to show for it after four years of investment. |

Do you mean Fall of 2012? Nothing on the link provided in this thread shows that this "new" college exists right now. Nothing on the link provided states that Gateway or the "new" college is now accredited. Am I missing something? |
Re: Gateway College is now accredited...
Two questions: who is going to accredit the college (that does matter ya know?). And isn't acredidation a process that takes longer than a year?
|
Re: Gateway College is now accredited...
UGST is taking over/or rather purchasing Gateway. There are already accredited. ...and yes, this coming school year (fall of 2011) will be officially accredited.

I hope they will be able to get accredited as a Liberal Arts University and be able to offer accredited degrees. I had hoped Great Lakes University would pull this off but I understand things are not going well there and I don't know if it is even operating anymore. |
Re: Gateway College is now accredited...
They are seeking accredidation with the NCA per the FAQ's listed on the website.

Re: Gateway College is now accredited...
Can't remember who the accreditation is being done through, but this process at Gateway has been going on for much longer than a year. We have been getting updates on their progress at every MO District Conference for at least the last three years.

Re: Gateway College is now accredited...
Here are some quotes from a facebook thread from an instructor/professor at Gateway. This sheds more light from a reliable source.
"I just heard that a motion passed at Gen Conf for UGST to buy out Gateway's charter and facilities. As I understand it, at some point in the near future (summer 2012) Gateway will cease to exist and the UPCI will open an undergrad institution." "The new college will not be named Gateway." "That gives pentecostal's a lot less choices for colleges" -- "Actually, it opens a whole new world. Now they will have a place to go to get a non-ministerial degree." -- "The other Bible colleges are all still open." " Isn't Great Lakes still open for non-ministerial degrees?" -- "Not sure what's going on with Great Lakes. They, like the Bible colleges, are ENDORSED by the UPCI. This new college will be owned and operated by the UPCI." "The new college will not be liberal arts per say. It will be a Christian college. That is somewhere between a liberal arts and Bible college." "Same as jr college or community college?" -- "No, not a junior college either. Although that would be cool if they do emphasize that aspect. The info that I have is that it will be an undergrad institution that awards degrees. I would imagine it will start out with ministry degrees in addition to whatever else they do. It won't be a Bible college because not everyone will major in Bible (30+ Bible credits). There will be four year degrees too." "The Gateway experience was phenomenal. i hope they do not take away the spiritual side and God-centerness of it." -- "While I may not know much about the new college, I do know the people involved in its establishment. I feel very confident that the mission will be geared toward an apostolic experience in education. God will definitely be expected to be a part of matriculation!" |
It will be several years before Gateway is "accredited."

You are right to an extent...Gateway will never be accredited. Gateway is closing after this year. It's going to be a totally new school. |
Re: Gateway College is now accredited...
The site that you provided says that they are going to seek acredidation.

Does it matter? By the time someone graduates in 4 years from there, they will be accredited.

Re: Gateway College is now accredited...
Seems odd to say the UPC is acquiring Gateway, and then it will cease to exist. Trying to wipe the slate clean, or something? What will that mean for the progress toward accreditation that Gateway made?

For 529 plan purposes, an eligible educational institution is any college, university, vocational school or other postsecondary educational institution eligible to participate in a student aid program administered by the U.S. Department of Education. By that definition, nearly all accredited public, non-profit and proprietary (privately owned, profit-making) postsecondary institutions are eligible. |
