3D is not all that
We just got our new 59 inch Samsung plasma set with WiFi and 3D capability early this morning.
The picture is incredible and the set is huge in our living room. Much bigger than it looked in the store (Best Buy). It came with two pairs of 3D glasses and since we subscribe to DirecTV we have a half a dozen dedicated 3D stations to watch. When we tested it out their was a distinct "wow!" factor that lasted about two minutes, but both me and my wife found we cannot watch for more then 20 minutes without incredable eye strain -we tried watching tonight's Arizona State football game which is broadcast on ESPN 3D but couldn't last past 5 minutes before switching to the normal version. Anyone else here actually LIKE 3D tv? |
Re: 3D is not all that
I've felt the same way after watching IMAX 3D. I love it, but after awhile it REALLY hurts my eyes. I don't think I could handle watching it all the time, and I wonder what kinds of lasting physical effects it could have on viewers.
I believe the Nintendo DS that has 3D capability comes with some warnings about extended use, headaches and seizures. Actually, that might have been with the regular Nintendo. I can't remember. Maybe because the screen is held so close? |

Re: 3D is not all that
Avatar was the only 3D movie that I have ever been able to watch without getting a headache after about 15 or 20 minutes. That was in a theater.
I believe your Samsung 3D plasma is active vs passive 3D? If so that is supposed to be the better of the two methods. |

Re: 3D is not all that
We have a PS3 which is capable of playing 3D blurays. I plan on getting the Green Lantern to test it out as well as Avatar.

Narrow, you have a valid PoV in that Television is a sewer.
But it can be monitored so that you control what you see. Just like the Internet. Ours has Fox New running mostly, and then movies we pick out to watch. |
Re: 3D is not all that
My kids flat refuse to watch 3D movies. The last one we saw was a complete waste of money as most of us had to take our glasses off due to eye strain, and then couldn't see the movie without them.

I don't get the appeal anyway. Regular-dimensional is good enough for me. ;)
