It doesn't look like the girl was actually hurt physically.

That being said, this isn't discipline at all but looks more like anger.

Indeed anger and discipline are two different things. This serves as a reminder that the rod of correction should be applied by parent with the same love and mercy with which God has had to apply it to us.

No, that part ? no ! And without the cursing i might add. Having said that i only used a belt once or twice on my son (when i caught him stealing from about 10 different stores then i made him take back everything returnable and he worked and paid me back for that which wasnt returnable) and the other time maybe when he hit his mother, though she deserved it ,one of my daughters, i never spanked ,didnt have to, my other daughter i only spanked once,i then apologized later, because i did it with too much anger.all of my children turned out wonderful ,despite their mother being a terrible example, what she did to them in private i dont know, i do know she was very abusive verbally and some physically too, they would never tell me what, i really couldnt ask for better children, my son is a perfect gentleman.Im a happy man, though i wish he would go back to church:(

It was normal to get a whipping when I was a kid. It hurt. I didnt like it. I have not watched the video so I hope its not an abuse deal. The world has dramatically changed since I was young.

Disgusting behavior on the part of both parents. I could make a specific list but it would be too long. Smart kid, though, catching it on tape.

Who cares? My husband was beat till blood run down his legs and worse and he turned out fine, too. Albeit with a lot of hurt and anger to work through. FYI, this video was made in 2004, when the girl was 16. She had the video for a long time and finally released it to the press herself. According to the article below, she has cerebral palsy, making this abuse even more unpalatable. (As if any at all is palatable.)

My daughter is a very good child and very rarely needs spankings. She does not respond well to spankings. It seems to make her worse. She is six and I really hate to spank her but sometimes when she will not allow other correction I am left with no choice.

She claims that my spankings do not hurt, I think she has a high pain tolerance. Anyway, if I was going to spank her to the point of changing her mind about something it would probably look like abuse even though she might be laughing the whole time.

As a child I would never tell my parents that it didn't hurt or laugh when they spanked me because I knew they could make it hurt.

Anyway, I have decided that spankings do not work with my daughter. I spend a lot of time talking with her and trying to teach her. Sometimes she still gets a spanking but only if she is in pure rebellion and it hurts me to do it but it seems like she begs for it at times.

I got spanked all the time as a child and I am not sure the spankings ever helped my attitude or submission.

I got that bad.... and it involved church, or my lack of "desire" to go. Long endless church. Hours and hours of timeless church. Nothing but church. Oh lord how I HATE church. My dad would even drive my near a local insane asylum and threaten shock treatments if I didn't comply and start agreeing to go to church with them as the perfect little child who would make their family unit appear more functional. God almighty I HATE church. And I DARE someone to say "oh get over it and let JEE-ZUS in!".

Over 25 years later and my heart starts missing beats when I am forced to enter a church and.... stand through a song service.

I received my share of spankings when I was growing up. Generally ours were for rebellion, open disrespect of Mom or Dad, lying, or cheating in school. My parents had other ways to punish asides from spanking, but we were all fairly good kids and could go for months without doing anything to get any more than a scolding. The things I hated more than spankings was a lecture or tears from Mom I would want to scream, "Spank me please, but do not cry!" That was worse than any other punishment Mom crying.

This went way too far..one thing to whip a child but to tell her she does not belong in that house is wrong.Her dad is a punk and deserves the same beating..

Y'all might not believe this, since I am so sweet and nice. But, I got lots of spankings when I was a kid. Some deserved, others not so much. But, boy I tell you, I hated the switches!!!!!!

That was abuse, plain and simple. I was only able to watch 2 minutes of it.

A swat on the butt to keep them in line is one thing. To make a child bend over a bed while you beat them with a belt is quite another. I don't understand how people can beat their child with belts, but if someone did it to a dog it would be abuse. If you can't whip a dog with a belt, don't whip your child with a belt!

I was told to bend over the bed and momma whooped me with a wooden paddle. I deserved every ounce of it.

Spanking, with a belt or other object, isn't abuse. Unless they are beating you bloody, it's called punishment. It's more abusive to not spank your kids behinds than it is to do so.

My youngest brother is 13 years younger than me. Us older 2 boys told him spankings were funny and laugh. Years later he came up to me and said, I lied.
They hurt worse when he laughed because dad hit harder. :heeheehee :happydance :thumbsup

Jesus loves you all and if I had kids I would go out and buy ice cream and eat it in front of them if they were bad, then laugh because they got none. I tried it with one of my cats, she was beating on the deaf cat I have. I held her while she watched driscoll eat canned cat food. That mean little cat punched me in the nose for real.

We'll never know all the details. While I don't agree someone, specifically a woman, deserves to be hit, there are those times where one has to stand up for themselves. Disrespecting parents should never amount to repeated hitting from the parent. But, again, we'll never know all the details. And I certainly don't expect canam to reveal them...

Yep, because of what she did to him,i wont go into that any further since she is my ex ,thank goodness, but trust me she did . I will say, she never touched him again after that, or vice versa.AND ps i made sure all my children kept a good relationship with her after she left despite how she treated them and me for that matter.

There is a difference between spanking and beating as someone already mentioned. I believe that spanking should be a last resort, but this child was clearly beaten as a punishment rather than spanked. Besides a teens privileges can be taken away rather than spanked (or beaten in this case).

Thats just boring. I'm more a fan of the "shock and awe" approach to punishment. They take a piece of candy...you spank em, lock them in a closet, throw all their toys ina pile and burn them and then threaten putting them up for adoption. That'll teach em to steal a piece of candy! :lol

Oh please !!they did it for one reason statute of limitations ,she did it for one reason at this point because she was ticked he cut her allowance and took her Benze,she threatened him by saying he would regret it.(Im sure she has been holding this over his head for years)She is a spoiled little brat.
