Should Christians Be Involved in the Military?
Chances are there are some members of this forum who have served in active military in the past, and if you did that is between you and God considering any possible actions you had to take that were contrary to Christian principle.
But does anyone here believe Christians should NOT be involved in the military? |
Re: Should Christians Be Involved in the Military?
I have a friend who thinks if Christians serve in the military they should try to do it in a helping capacity, like ministry, first aid, communications, stuff like that.
Personally, I think there were some wars that were worth fighting. Other wars I'm not sure I understand the value of them. My son was 82nd Airborne, and I am very proud of his service to our country. My Dad also served. I'm thankfull to those who have served are are serving. |
Re: Should Christians Be Involved in the Military?
Dante, if you search a little on the forum you will find a lot of posts on this subject. I think the Bible clearly shows that just war and just justice does not violate the commandment about not committing murder. The Old Testament makes this clear.
I respect other opinions on this subject (well, not really LOL) but I am thankful the pacifist wing of Christendom has not prevailed through history or we would probably all be speaking German today and there certainly would not be a United States of America. |

Sounds like too much work. Besides, it is easier for me to ask this question again considering I'm new to this forum and was not aware this topic had been discussed. :) |
Re: Should Christians Be Involved in the Military?
Thank you Amanah.
Dante, there is room in the service for all spiritual paths as long as they are true to our country. As far as violating the path of Jesus, no, I do not find that to be an issue. Should one choose to follow Jesus as a pacifist, there are still many things that you can do in the services. As for myself, I was a witch when I went in, and a follower of Jesus when I came out 10 years later. :) |

Re: Should Christians Be Involved in the Military?
can a person be a christian in the military? YES. is it hard to serve Christ with all the peer pressure? YES. I should know, I was in the Army.

If they don't mind being a part of the global police.

Re: Should Christians Be Involved in the Military?
I've heard it reasonably argued from both views.
So ....Personal conviction I guess. |

there have been soldiers from before the time of Jesus, God himself ordered Moses to create an army. If God had changed his mind later on, and disaproved of military service he never told anyone. Cornelius a soldier was the first gentile conver, yet Peter must have thought it was OK for a soldier to become a Christian.:smack |

Christian history testifies that many early martyrs were Christian soldiers who refused to fight and kill for the Roman Empire. Christianity was dangerous to Roman authority because Christians saw themselves primarily beholden to the Kingdom of God.
Christians should refuse to be pawns of this earthly system. Being of the world is more than just dressing like them. I served 8 years. Medic. |
Re: Should Christians Be Involved in the Military?
If some politicians get their way, all people both men and women will have to serve either military or community service. The last two presidents have mentioned this in their speeches to the nation on this subject.

Re: Should Christians Be Involved in the Military?
And many martyrs were not soldiers.
Yes Shag, it really does come down to personal conviction upon the matter. Does God have a place for someone in the service or not. They need to ask Him. |
