I mighta known....

Hoove, there's more to life than makin coffee, makin money, and makin babies. Now all 3 of those things are very important I admit, but one can still find time to escapie the stresses of life, by taking life...shedding innocent blood of animals, and such things..

Ohhhhh, you ain't hearin me!

Yup, traditional northern deer hunter. Didn't get one this year, state herd count is down due to harsh weather. Love taking my 30-30 for a quiet walk in the woods.

Re: Any hunters?

No hunting for me thank you, however if you ever get to where you can not eat it all, I would be more than happy to have you send me some of your game. My Grandfather, Father, brother, and cousins hunt. I just do not like to skin, gut, cut, and acquire any blood that does not belong to me. However, I am not so far removed that I will not eat it with great joy and a thankful heart.

My family gets roadkill if it is not too badly damaged, and we grind our own meat. That is where I help out.

Re: Any hunters?

My cousin's 8 year old son got his first deer this year. He shot it with a muzzle loader. His brother got his first deer last year when he was 9.

My dad and brothers have been hunters my whole life.

I, on the other hand, have never been and never really want to go. Eating the fruits of their labors is good enough for me. I LOVE venison!! Not so thrilled with rabbit. Squirrel is not my favorite. And I HATE bear!! much to wild tasting for me!

Re: Any hunters?

Rabbit, deer, pheasant, squirrel, duck, duck, deer duck, goose, American antelope, deer, elk, and I must mention deer are the animals that I have eaten. Mom found out that if you use the right amount of instant coffee, it will take most of the gamey flavor out of the meat. However, there have only been a few takes that needed that treatment.

Kewl. Ive never eaten moose, elk, antelope, or bear. But ive eaten the rest, even racoon 2x- not so good!

I'd like to try gator, heard it is good.

I'm still trying to master the cooking duck. They always say, marinade 5-6 hrs then throw it on a hickory board on the grill and seer each side, then slow grill it till it is done. Then pull the duck off the board, throw away the duck and eat the board....is about the only good way to cook duck.

I'll get it figured out sometime tho....

I hunted a few seasons. I came to enjoy shooting in itself more than shooting animals. I would rather shoot paper targets, rocks, or trees.

My husband and a son enjoy deer/squirrel hunting. I like venison okay, but I just can't bring myself to eat one of those big rat looking squirrels! LOL

The husband of a friend of mine loves hog hunting. I will eat wild pork also.

I hope that all who do kill animals like that, are indeed using the meat for food and not being wasteful. I know that soup kitchens and places like that would appreciate getting some fresh game to feed the poor.

I've tried deer hunting and quickly learned I don't have the patience to sit in a cold tree stand waiting for the prize. I'd much rather be exploring the woods, and maybe even climb a tree or run through a creek when the weather's warmer...

I don't hunt but my Dad and husband just got done with gun season. I spent today butchering deer.

I am going to start a new thread on sports hunting and trophy hunting. The thread will link to my Facebook Note on the issue. It includes email exchanges with my friend, Larry Burton, a great AoG pastor who went to Africa on a "big game" hunt, killed a zebra (among many other animals), and had the audacity to post the photos where I, a squeamish sort, could see them. I think you will find the exchange of ideas both stimulating and amusing.

Yeah, I don't like hunting personally. But we always use whatever is shot for meat. I would not want to shoot something, myself but I have eaten venison all my life. I suspect if it had not been for venison we would not have been eating meat. It was survival.

shag 11-28-2011 09:34 PM

Re: Any hunters?

For the most part, If I won't eat it, I won't shoot it(lest it was in self defense, or something up the food chain killing smaller animals like too many coyotes killing all the rabbits or too many otters eating all the smallmouth bass I lie to catch)

I couldn't shoot a zebra, itd be like shooting a horse, and I wouldn't care to eat a horse lest I was starving to death! And I have no desire to shoot a bear either.

Was in a house working last week and a guy had every kind if animal mount imaginable, from zebras to mountain lions to large exotic animals, about 35 or so. It was too much for me.

"The locals", deer, turkey, duck, and all the fish I can catch(not many), and I'm good to go.

Hey!!!! None of that now. Some of us love those furry egos, and both of mine love me, especially after I have been away for a while.

When I was a kid, I made the mistake of taking my baby sister hunting with me. I was 16 or so and she was 12.

We get into the woods and she starts singing

Run away Squirrelly my bubba's gonna kill you!

LOL!

Oh, I also hunt. I hunt women, I have yet to catch one with my trangilizer gun. You know a dart in the behind, take her home and marry her before she is alert.:bigbaby:thumbsup

I have a friend that has a farm, and there was a whole lot of unwanted half wild stray cats hangin around. So he paid my brother(while work was slow) so much per head to shoot with his military assault rifle AR15. He killed about 20 cats, and enjoyed every minute of it.

Not sure if there was milk involved in the scheme or not....

Re: Any hunters?

I grew up on a farm. you had to have 3 or 4 mousers all the time. you had to have females because you cant keep a tomcat to stay close to home.

This was before people took cats to vets and spaying was not something one actually did....

If I have killed 1 cat, I have killed 200.... it is the price of not having mice.
