I went to the hospital today.

So I was playing online with a program that gives off a noise at 30,000Hz and it bothered me a little. I then listening to a noise that was being broadcast at 90,000Hz. After hearing that noise for 4 seconds I had to stop. It felt like my head was about to blow up, as if I was about to pass out. I then sat 5 minutes and that noise returned for like 5 seconds. I then felt like I was going to pass out again! I felt very disoriented and scared. I couldn't handle the feeling so I went to the hospital! AHHHHHH NEVER again will I play with that stuff!

What in the world and what did they say and do at the hospital?

Re: I went to the hospital today.

They probably recommended a psychiatrist for him to discover why he would want to mess with noises at those levels. They probably also locked him in the psychiatric ward for overnight observation as they possibly believed that he was mentally unbalanced for messing with noises at that level. :D;)

Thank God, feeling way better. I really thought I was going up yonder...that's how horrible it felt.

The first one was a ringer....then I tried to see if I could hear noise broadcast at 90,000Hz..... I heard it alright!

Actually any tones above 22 or so KH are completely inaudible. There have been reports of certain women being able to hear closer to the 30Kh range, but that is the ultimate limit. Bats can't even hear at 90.

Thank God!

That was like about a $ 1,500.00 deal... if our emergency room trips are any gauge.

They were confused as to why I did that! Lol.... They said it wasn't dangerous though! Lol

Well bro, I heard it and it was scary after four seconds....

I am glad to hear that there was no permanent damage done. Good luck, if you do it again, they will likely stick you in the psychiatric ward for your own safety. :D

Yes sir! Thank God for health insurance. I wasn't so happy about the deductible though.

Well, I have been known to react to a dog whistle when done withing about 5 feet. It felt like someone was poking around in my head.

If that is the case, you are on the road the riches! Click here: http://www.randi.org/site/ then select What We Do on to and click on The $1M Challenge. They will negotiate a mutually accepted test protocol and give you 1 million dollars when you pass it. No tricks. You will both agree to the laboratory test standards before hand.

After working in the hospital for 20 years, I would have loved to been a fly on the wall listening to what they said about you after you were discharged.

You wouldn't believe some of the strange stuff I have seen. None of it is acceptable to be mentioned here.:oops

Were you using headphones?

My guess: the site you were on may have said they were giving you a 90 KHz tone, but, if you actually heard something, it was actually something else, much lower than 90K. No idea why they'd mislead you like that, though. 90 KHz would be tough for any normal speaker to reproduce.

Correct. All speakers and headphones are rated to be able to produce at a specific audible range. So, the original poster is pretty much posting nonsense.

Yes, a typical cheap pair of headphones will probably have a 20-18,000 hertz range and most over 10 bucks will list 20-22,000/24,000, although their REAL range will be much less. The average person in their 20's with good hearing (who didn't blow it listening to loud music in their bedroom or sitting in hours and hours of church) cannot hear above 16,000. They just can't.

There are a few VERY high end super tweeters a person can buy for their stereo's which can just reach 100,000 -but this it utterly ridiculous since NO music has content in that range and even if it did it is at the very highest end of what bats can hear (way beyond dogs!).

I wasn't utilizing headphones and I wasn't listening to music....

Yeah, I decided to lie about what I heard.... So I went to the hospital and gave away $200.00 because I just wanted to spend money? You're pathetic.

JL, I'm just glad you were discharged and still have your hearing. I think all of us have been in an exploratory mood at one time or the other without knowing or realizing any consequences of what it was we were curious about...

I think that is the standard thought all over the world but....emergency room staff see so many weird things and they talk about it to each other, especially if they thought it was funny.

Hey Dagwood!

I was curious so I decided to give it a shot. I will tell you I will NEVER do that again....lol... Right now my ears were still hurting a little. Yesterday before being discharged I felt really tired and sleepy. I woke up today so that must be a good sign! lol

Re: I went to the hospital today.

This reminds me of audiophiles during the rise of the CD who claimed its inferior sound because they could hear the individual "bits". LOL

These were also the same guys who claimed, and still do, that they can hear differences in different optical cables connecting their CD player transport(which almost all have given in and actually purchased since claiming they could hear the "bits") to their dedicated DAC boxes.

Randy, when I get home I'll look and post it here. Once again, I have no reason to lie! I actually was an idiot for doing what I did, due to curiosity.

Well I was laughing with the doctors and two nurses.... I apologized to them for being in the emergency room.... I told them this situation scared the caca out of me... We were all laughing.
